Trust me, I've told him this many times. His response is always "He's not that good as a rapper, but a really good musician".

That doesn't even make sense seeing as Wack Filler doesn't even produce his own shit.

This.

What the hell does he mean by that? How is he artistic? Writing a song about your "Nikes" isn't a fucking genius, artistic concept. No one is gay/retarded enough to do that but him.

Horrible logic.

Nas hasn't topped God's Son, Stillmatic and even Illmatic for some people. The most recent of the three being from '02. So at the very least, Nas has been in a decline for 9 years. Should he retire too?

Royce has yet to top Death Is Certain, an '04 album. Should he retire too?

I could easily keep going...

This is a horrible analogy because by most people who isn't an idiot, Eminem has not even come close to topping TES which was more 8 years ago, and just flopped completely, he still has some spark in him but he's nowhere near his prime.

An argument can actually be made that Nas is near his prime or Stillmatic level, just that he can't put together a coherent album with the right beats not to mention there are very polarizing opinions on what is Nas' best non illmatic album and can range from Stillmatic-Untitled so no. So that wasn't a good comparison at all...

For this thread Ll Cool J, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Beastie Boys etc. guys like those.

I wouldn't mind Ghostface retiring tbh, dude has a great disco and only dropped one deuce in his career, I'd hate for him go towards a downward incline and be a zombie releasing shit each year that his little to no resemblance of his former self. Though he's the only one dropping decent ish from the Wu so I'm a bit conflicted on this.

TBH most rappers approaching/over 40 should retire. I mean Dre shoulda bowed out the games ages ago, Snoop aswell, and mainly older acts like KRS One, Redman, DMX etc... as much as i love their music, i'd rather they left us with the dope memories.

Some older rappers could still keep going because the content will still suit them. Nas & Rakim are prime examples

I actually came into this thread to say Rakim, I think he's way past it :zipped:

7th Seal was so dull, from the beats which would have sounded bland back in 1991, to Ra's rhymes which are just a stale re-hash of the same stuff he's been rapping about for 25 years....the guy is a legend, but he's like the Holyfield of rap music: doing whatever he can to make some cash, but he hasn't evolved at all post 1997

KRS One, Redman and Prodigy are in a similar position
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

@Diction, i think Ghostface's newer work is still great, he's in my top 5 and as you said, his discography is pretty even. However i don't think he's the only one dropping anything decent from the Wu, Rae's album was pretty cool, and i'll judge Meth when he releases 'The Crystal Meth' & 'Blackout 3'.

@Tornado, i think i see where you're going with this, the artists you stated such as KRS, Red & DMX were all fun loving characters back in the day and so energetic with their style, however, Nas & Rakim have always been wize beyond their years, and they can carry on doing what they do as age has no barrier, what you see with Red, KRS & DMX is that they have lost their vibrant energy over the years (Survival Skills that KRS did with Buckshot is dope however, and if you didn't cop it, i suggest you check it out :y: And also, with Redman, i'm waiting on Blackout 3 & Muddy Waters 2)

@KillahBee - Rakim has been doing laid back music for the last 10+ years and i think that now, this is what modern day Rakim fans want from him, agreed, i didn't like 7th Seal, but it had a lot of positive reactions and reviews from fans. As for Prodigy, i think P is still doing his thing as i really liked The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson EP.
Fuck a sig, i go accapella.
