The "Yawwwaahhhh" on "3am"...

Postby EminemBase » Jul 20th, '11, 18:44

Is badass.

Just listening to it again. Sounds weird like slightly nasal but deep, kind of sounds like one of The Beatles or something, that low, nasally Liverpool melodic thing.

I wish he would do more dark, weird, melodic kind of noises and rhythms like this now. Would be class if he produced his own tracks again and just focused on every aspect and layered this kind of stuff throughout it. Rather than just grabbing 50 Just Blaze beats and spitting about sluts and chickens.

He's never fully utilized his potential to make big, atmospheric music in my opinion. Something like "The Way I Am" is what I mean, but Relapse was a real step towards it, a bit of a musical step forward, as he was just sort of losing himself in a mindset and sounds.

Whatever that weird voice is, it sounds cool. He could definitely still experiment with tones, it'd sound fresh if he did a sort of low, nasally tone like that now and would be a stark contrast to all the recent yelling.

Yep, and it's like he was 100% focused on lyrics and not the music on Recovery. I'm not even talking about the beats (though they were subpar), but so many little musical nuances coulda been added to greatly improve the musical aspect. It was just beats if you know what I mean.

One thing that sets Em above other rappers is the musicality, he uses lyricism AND creates a song around it (Though Recovery wasnt as big on this)

This is why I wish he didn't care so much about what some fans say. In Relapse he didn't give a fuck and just went all out artistically. Recovery doesn't sound like him.

This song is like the younger brother of Stay Wide Awake, which I guess is the reason I don't really like 3AM 'cause I compare 'em :(

But the song has some cool aspects(like when he says 'EVIL RISE' in the background at the end that's awesome!) and the video is one of my favorite Eminem videos, I wish Stay Wide Awake would've got one though.

A video for SWA would cause the kind of reaction he wanted to get from all the shock value in relapse
There's people that love me and people that hate me. But it's the evil that made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shady.

That's true, and I like it a lot. When his fans got mad back in 1999/2000 he told them to fuck off and made The Way I Am, and now he cares what they think and was like OMG sorry!!!

Yep. Relapse 1 and 2 could of been visual masterpieces as well. The songs are so vivid. I think videos / imagery can add so much to an album's standing, lasting and quality.

It's like "Stan", it elevates the song to something else.

Imagine very visual, abstract videos for "Medicine Ball" and "My Mom". And Relapse 2 could of been even more extreme. It's such a shame and such a waste. I feel he wasted what could of been one of his most satisfying periods, period.

If he had just removed every ounce of 'Eminem life shit', any song that was in a realistic vein and made it a total indulgence in abstract madness, could of been amazing.

What do you mean exactly, like how around Relapse he always pointed away from the crowd and looked at the stage?

Well, he was with like the "3am" performance. As, even if you see him perform it now he still does the same actions - the weird head spinning etc. to suggest manic madness.

But I would say that his stage actions have just evolved. But he's always changing, every album. If you look at how he performed in 2002 it was totally different to how he did in 2000 or 2001. In 2000 and 2001 he was very hardcore and bouncy, in 2002 he was more melodic, a lot of twirling and 'little running' with his feet etc.

Which was all different to how he performed in 1999 which was a lot more sporadic and unformed. A lot of jumping and panting. And bending down.

I think he's still robotic though, he's just been stiff and weird since he returned period. And I've noticed that it's due to the fact his legs are always apart and slightly bent now, which makes him look awkward. If you watch him perform 1999-2004, his legs were always together, close together, which clearly - looks better.
