It's like hip hop

A causal rap fan would classified both Tupac & RZA as just rap. Yet a avid fan knows Pac is West coast rap & RZA is nyc rap

If you get into rock more it will be easy to tell bands apart

Forgot Guns n Roses, they're awesome.

What Chet said. Evanescence is gothic, The Beatles is pop/rock (that music goes so far back that back then there weren't as many subgenres so I guess you could call it rock). Nirvana is grunge, led zeppelin is hard rock and Motorhead is Heavy Metal/Metal. In the end a lot of bands have influences of many different genres so it's hard to tell.

IMO depends how stuck up about music the people are. I've had people in rage for labeling something in the wrong rock genre but personally I feel like what does it really matter?

Especially if you view it this way, Rock actually IS the genre.. All the other things are just sub genre's which is actually correct, So how can you be wrong to label them Rock? That is how i see it anyhow.

Hmm yeah I feel you sort of. I guess people get pissed off because they don't want to be associated with certain subgenres that really differ from what they listen to. It's like how an old-school hiphop head would react if people tell him that he listens to Wayne and Lil Jon.

This is true, but the fact remains that without their signature style, they lost a lot of their uniqueness. There's a reason the singles from Minutes to Midnight were What I've Done and Bleed It Out; they were just like their previous stuff. Then people heard the rest of the album and didn't like it. As for A Thousand Suns, it was a pretentious piece of shit to be honest (inb4 DA joke).

Linkin Park sucks and all those bands you named (save for Blink 182 have sorta off a soft spot for them) can be safely classified as buttrock that the angsty nihilist teen likes to play.

Everyone saying bands that play nu-metal are an embarrassment to the metal scene. When in actual fact, many of the bands are fans of the old days..Just look at Fred Durst:

Didn't expect him to be a Slayer fan..Mind was fucked.

their signature never was doing nu metal and the rapping and all that, they said it in interviews before minutes to midnight and a thousand suns came they never saw themselves that way thats just the way everyone saw them, just another rock band with a rapper but thats just wrong they just try to bring together so many generes and thats their real signature and style, I got my name rise from the ashez from a line mike spits on nobodys listening that goes "rise from the ashes of stylistic division" and thats exactly what they do, whether its bringing together rap and rock or electronica and pop thats what they do

Don't get me wrong I love their shit. I just honestly don't like A Thousand Suns. Minutes to Midnight is okay. It's not even that i'm one of those faggots who decides a band sucks after they make x number of albums, I liked New Divide off the Transformers movie and that's pretty recent. I just really didn't like ATS lol. I'll still listen to their new album whenever it comes out. I'm just sayin.

Winning!
Atreyu can get away with being metalcore too...
Mainly because they were one of the first bands.

I like almost all genres of rock music, from metal to screamo to death/black metal to metalcore to pop rock to grunge to punk to nu metal to alternative to thrash to indie to goth. IDGAF how it's labeled, if it sounds good to me i'll listen to it, I hate the whole subgenre label thing because of how out of control it is & how many fucking sub genres there are.

BTW Slimm I've been meaning to get a suggestion for Kings Of Leon, I like the song you posted, reminded me a bit of Muse musically, adding KOL to my band list.
