The first 10 years of the 21st century bestowed a lot of hip hop feuds upon us, most of which will go down in music history. Some were legendary (Nas vs.Jay-Z), others rather ludicrous (Game vs. 50 Cent/G Unit), but meanwhile it seems like the era of the big beefs is over.
The game lacks every form of competitiveness. It seems that whenever any rapper is asked what he thinks of another one, all they have left to say are words of praise.
Imagine the Bad Meets Evil project and the Kanye Jay-Z EP had both been released five or six years ago under the same circumstances, I believe there would have been a lot more tension in the air. I can't even picture Eminem releasing something as suggestively offensive as the "I Get Money" freestyle that leaked earlier this year in 2011.
And whenever any rapper has something negative to say, it's toned down or delivered in some sort of disguised stab.
After Tyler, the Creator offended B.o.B. and Bruno Mars in Yonkers, B.o.B. replied with "No Future". Tyler, the Creator was asked about the track and all he had to say was that he didn't feel like he needed to reply anymore 'cause B.o.B. never mentioned any names and his track was just too subliminal.
Now the attacking Hopsin diss against Tyler has gotten Hop some more attention and a bunch of new fans. Tyler said about the diss that it was "pretty funny" and "he sees me as a threat musically".
Hopsin said, I believe over Twitter or Facebook that it was nothing personal and that Tyler does the same thing.
I don't think that either feud is going any further and there don't seem to be any other current or upcoming beefs going on. So is all the potential competitiveness in rap music gone?
