No, he did not have a point. ENERGY cannot be destroyed, it only changes forms. The law of conservation of mass states that the mass of a closed system will remain constant over time. Neither of these apply to consciousness or memories.

Memories and consciousness aren't energy though. The actual brain would technically still always exist though, it would decay over time into the soil and the energy would be used to nourish the plants.
