Jay-z and Kanye West as a duo

Postby pawel » Aug 11th, '11, 18:28

Hey you guys, I really felt I have to say this without doing any review on the Watch the Throne album

Last year we had Distant Relatives which is also an album by a duo. Nas and Damien would really fit together well on the album, but also on previous songs. They come across sharing a point of view, complementing eah other and making more then songs.

Now this is where 'The Throne' kind of fails to deliver. They make songs that feature both artists and that's about it. It could've been an album by either of the two artists that heavily features the other one. There verses are barely anytime related. So far I just see no point why this album should be considered a duet.
If Jay-Z and Kanye West wanted to make themselves worthy being a two man group they should've made concept songs and/or a concept album.

Once again, not an album review, but an artist review

They don't really fit together and honsetly, Jay didn't really fit into this record at all, it was more of a Kanye album. Jay had a few good verses but overall he sounded really tired.

I don't really see me playing this much more after this week. It's a decent album just nothing special.

Menzo wrote:Nas and Damian's chemistry was great and they had good back and forth, especially on As We Enter and then we had Eminem and Royce together and I think the chemistry on Welcome 2 Hell just blows out the chemistry Jay and Kanye had on the entire album.

It just moved too slow for me, I dunno. Like you said, they barely related.

Agreed. The only time i felt that back and forth was on Why I Love you and it sounded forced as fuck. Tbh, i think this duo could have worked if Jay Z had a drive and desire for creative concepts. For me, Kanye is so CREATIVE, so DIFFERENT, so ZANY that Jay Z cant make that leap and as a result tags along. Still a good rapper and good duo but they truly are better off on each others albums that on a collabo.

I didn't see any chemistry at all on WTT. The chemistry they had back in the day like in the Diamonds from Sierra Leone remix was awesome, WTT is just boring and average as fuck.
