I am also an ex-muslim, but instead of being atheist, I am more like an agnostic... even though I am not 100% sure that I've understood the concept of being agnostic.

My parents know that I have turned my back against the religion. Of course they are not happy about it, but they kind of "accept" it. Sometimes they sound disappointed, but I do understand that...
