Yeah well I don't know where that comes from.

I think just like people like to call Kanye a shitty rapper... because, he's a producer first, and a rapper second. Which is the same for Em in reverse.

So because of that they intuitively discredit their second love or output a little more than they would anybody else. I think if Em was JUST a producer, he'd be rated among the best.

Most people agree The Eminem Show is his best produced album, and HE produced it. So how can people say he's nowhere near Dre or the top producers if they think his best produced album was done by him. When his others were done by Dre and Mel Man etc.

How could anybody hear "The Way I Am" beat or "Renegade" beat and say they're not unique or above average. They're fantastic, atmospheric beats. I think his production gets under your skin more, and for his own rapping, fits better than any Dre beats.

And listen to something like "Cleanin' Out My Closet"... I can't even think of another rap producer that's come up with melodies like that which sound like instantly classic, memorable musical melodies. Even Kanye, he samples a lot and does a lot of innovative stuff with the music, but no Kanye beat ever made sticks in my head like "Cleanin' Out My Closet" or "Lose Yourself". They're so memorable and classic.

I have nothing to add :y:
but for some reason people prefer beats with soul samples and don't understand these great Em's melodies :facepalm
and i like that Em not often uses samples for his instrumentals.
Those people probably dont realize that the only songs Dre did on The Eminem Show are Business and My Dad's Gone Crazy.

^ People saying his beats sound the same? wtf, lmao.

All these over-hyped modern producers sound the same to me. And the same as each other. Loud, tuneless, clashy and tacky.

How the fuck does "The Way I Am" sound like "Renegade". Or "Renegade" like "White America". Or "White America" like "Lose Yourself", or "Square Dance"... or "Without Me".

Almost all of his best beats have original melodies and sound unique. Obviously you can tell it's the same guy that produced them... but why wouldn't you? that's the sign of a good producer. Just like you can hear Dre's fingerpints, and Kanye's fingerprints on tracks.

But out of all the producers I've heard, Em is one of the ones who always makes different beats to me. I rarely think "oh, this sounds like X", they sound unique.

How can anybody say the guy who produced "8 Mile Road" is not good :confusion: I'd rather listen to that than trash like the "You're Never Over" beat any day. And JB is supposed to be a top producer.

If by distinct you mean memorable? as what I was talking about, not to my ears.

I can't think of an original melody or tune Kanye has created that is anywhere close to as memorable as something like "Cleanin' Out My Closet".

In fact I can't think of any Kanye melodies.

Kanye's production talent is endless and amazing but, he can do so much, it doesn't sound memorable to me. And sped up soul samples don't dazzle me.

Not even tracks such as "All Of The Lights"?

I agree on "Cleaning Out My Closet" having that epic classical feel and being memorable, but I do think that a lot of Eminem's other productions, especially after The Eminem Show, just aren't THAT good.

It all comes down to a matter of taste I guess.

Ok so Blaze made that horrible beat but you realise that he's made other great beats. It's like Your Never Over is the only beat you've heard from him stop downgrading him all the time because of that one song. Have you actually heard most of his beats like Jay Z Public Announcement? Eminems made pretty horrible beats himself like My 1st Single and most of his production on Loyal To The Game sucked to.

Can't really give a "best" because different beats fit different moods.

Rock Bottom is perfect for Rock Bottom, and So Bad is perfect for So Bad.

Love Brain Damage.

Exactly. And that's why I prefer more simplistic beats, they put the focus on the MC and the delivery comes off as more spectacular since there aren't 25 melodies to overshadow it. Plus the beats shouldn't be that important anyway, as long as they aren't horrible and don't ruin the track (though it does take a great beat to make the song more memorable and usually the lists of greatest/favorite tunes include an outstanding instrumental). Or at the very least, they shouldn't be the main concern of music critics who always seem to put more importance to that aspect. Not that I care about critics, but it always amazes me how can they overlook the greatness of let's say Em's lyrics and flow on Who Knew and let the beat ruin it for them.

I loved Blaze's beat on "The Champ" by Ghostface Killah
but yes to what Base said, Em is a great producer with a wide variety of styles

eminem's my favorite rapper of all time but as far as production goes he's average at best. this is the only site where i see people praising his production and besides a handful of his beats he's nowhere near as good as you lot make him out to be
