I recently listened to Talib Kweli's Joy from the album Quality and I had to rewind a special part of the track several times on my Ipod because it reminded me so much of the danish society.
"They put kids in jail, for a life they ain't even get to start.
That's murder too, and it's breaking my heart, it's breaking our nation apart.
We gave the youth all the anger, it's just we ain't taught them, how to express it, and so it's dangerous
You can't talk to them unless your language is relating to what they going through.
So busy ignoring them, you can't see what they showing you."
A couple of years ago the government lowered the criminal age of responsibility to just 14 which I personally think is a serious sign of nobody caring about the future of my country. Putting them in jail will not teach them anything, the way I see it.
This is not meant to be some sort of a political debate, just explaining why those lines got to me.
