It's open for discussion. I'm just trying to get his opinion most of all.

I want to hear his opinion too. I think A3k has a great flow!
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I do think he's overrated as an MC by some.

But as an artist, I think he gets (and deserves) the right amount of respect. He's experimental and constantly strives to be original, and he has natural charisma. Rap would be worse-off without him.

Does he deserve legendary status though?

Andre is definitely a legend, being the leading star of 4 classic rap LP's and releasing one of the most acclaimed, diverse and unique pop albums of the 2000s cements that

He morphed modern hip hop to a crazy extent, from his dress sense, his use of plug-ins on Stankonia, his ability to make being leftfiled popular, without 'Dre I don't think people like Kanye would be who they are today

As far as rapping goes, just listen to Da Art of Storytelling, A Day In The Life of Andre Benjamin and Elevators, read the lyrics too if it helps, the guy is a genius
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Not in the same way Eminem or 2Pac do, because he hasn't affected as many youth or minds in a clever enough way. He's too individualist and eccentric to be a legend in that sense.

But, considering the longevity he's had and the consistent critical influence, yes.
