Favorite Jay album definitely. No bad tracks from start to finish. I'd put it in my Top 5 Favorites..

This is one of those albums I sometimes forget I have, then going through my ipod, I see it and listen to it front-to-back. My favorite Jay-Z album definitely, but the greatest of all time? I don't think so.

Just like a discussion on what's a classic album. This album is awesome, one of the reasons why I bought it after like 8 year since release. BUT, it wasn't enough culturally significant and/or it didn't change the rap game like...for example. Paid In Full, Illmatic, 36 Chambers, Reasonable Doubt, The Marshall Mathers LP...
Bottom line, the album is awesome but way too fucking far from being "Greatest album of all time".

Great album, some of Jay's most honest and introspective verses ever.

I think Blueprint has more highlights, but The Black Album is more consistent, I agree with D.A though; Reasonable Doubt is still Jigga's finest hour
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

No one ever said that. But fact remains Tupac is one of the most overrated hip hop artists there has ever been. His good but he is far from the pedestal many place him on.

Jay is SO overrated too. So many people dickride Jay, and half, well probably more then half, of his lyrics are lyrics OTHER people wrote. Listen to '03 Bonnie & Clyde. Guess who he stole that from?

On topic, Black Album is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever, & personally my favorite Jay album. Yeah, it's better then Reasonable Doubt & Blueprint 1. But I have to say their a few other classic albums as well. Gonna list them, if I forget any, please do correct.

All Eyez On Me
Ready To Die
Life After Death
The Marshall Mathers LP
The Eminem Show
7 Day Theory
Paid In Full
Illmatic
You can make a case for the 2 Jay albums above, in some aspects. Otherwise, no.
The Chronic, & Chronic 2001
Doggystyle
Criminal Minded
Straight Outta Compton
Licensed To Ill
The Fix (good album)
Strictly Business
Death Certificate & Amerikkka's Most Wanted
Me Against The World
The Great Adventures of Slick Rick (very good, underrated)
The Score
Infamous
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Any Outkast shit PERIOD
Any early Wu-Tang shit
God's Son
SSLP
College Dropout
Any other Rakim shit

And whatever else I'm missing, probably nothing.

Fuckx with that list
