I'm sure Hop would be flattered but he wouldn't sign. He's specifically said that the wants to make it on his own, that he wants to be the type of person where others are like "yo where'd he come from all of a sudden, how did he get so big without a major label?"

Hop's said that he's turned down labels before, one of them may very well have been Em's.

He'd have to be bananas to turn down Shady..
I mean, that's an instant transistion from the semi-underground to mainstream..

Not necessarily. Yelawolf is proof of that. Same with Obie (Not many know him), Cashis, Stat Quo and Creekwater.

Well I'd rather meet / work with Eminem, D12, etc. and sell ~50k 1st week than do what Hopsin's doing.

Imagine your debut LP having a feature from Em and some of his beats.

Who would turn that down?

I think that he has studied the history of the Shady Rec and the fate of the Artist who left, so maybe that's why he is refusing to go for it.

He was offered to sign with Strange Music, and declined. I don't blame him.

I like Tech N9ne, but artists on his label are pushed to put out albums yearly. Plus they all generally tour together, with Tech N9ne being the main attraction.

I think if he did get an offer from Shady he'd be wise to turn that down also.

The odds of getting shelved, which he's already experienced and likely doesn't want to again, or flat out just getting no promo/buzz seem pretty high.

He's better off doing his own thing, continuing his own tour, and working on his album at his pace, not to a label's deadline who bosses him. He's garnered enough attention on his own, and probably will continue to do so.

I bet he will end up in YM outta desperation.

So he likes Yelawolf :coffee:
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Hopsin would be wise to not sign with Shady.

Forget getting shelved, if we're talking record sales, he would make more money doing it himself than on a major. Let's say that he didn't get shelved, and actually got decent promotion, and went gold. That's 500k, right? The average major label artist going gold brings home something like 40k.

It only takes like 5-8k units to get that kind of money independently. Those figures are from TAXI, so it's not my math, but the point is clear. Plus he seems happy independent.

Correct me if I'm wrong, or if it changed, but I recall Em back in 2002 saying he made a dollar an album.

Wouldn't the same be true today?

I've heard closer to .79 is average. Em probably does better as a superstar. So far as I know though, that doesn't include repaying the labels advance. Those are royalties due after all that is settled. Regardless of that, the 360 deal is becoming the standard, and that leaves you with even less.

So even if the figures I quoted are off, the point is that hop keeps his income as an indie.

He should stay indie, but make it big by working with superstars/touring.

Hop has nowhere to go but up.

He'll be like Tech, I think. A long, fruitful career in the underground, making plenty of cash and maintaining complete artistic control.
