Hey Embase.I made a topic ages ago asking Kanye fans why Graduation is held in such high esteem. Would be good to get your view on that seen as you obviously feel the same. I just feel he has at least 2 better albums than that....

I wouldn't agree he has any better albums.

When My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy first came out I didn't even think it was that great. Obviously the artistic ambition of it is wonderful and nobody is trying to push themselves in the present in the way that Kanye is. He's reaching deep down and trying to strive as high as he can...

And, the album grew on me. And I'd probably say it's my second favourite Kanye album now and would even accept or consider it better than Graduation.

However, I think The College Dropout is hugely overrated, by far the most overrated thing he's ever done to me. It has some good songs on there but I'm not a huge fan of the sped up soul shit, people thinking speeding up soul samples was genius? it sounds pretty corny to me. But there's obviously some real gems on that album, but as a whole, I don't think it's amazing.

Then Late Registration, which as an album, is better than TCD for me by quite a bit. Everything flows better, and the best tracks are better to me. Apart from "Jesus Walks".

But Graduation... that is Kanye's The Eminem Show to me. I'm not saying it's as good as The Eminem Show, but I mean it's that to him as TES is to Eminem to me. Every song flows so perfectly and sounds like it should be on the album. And I think it's the best collection of songs that he's made - best lyrics, best concepts, best hooks and most enjoyable to listen to.

Every song bar maybe "Drunk and Hot Girls" is so memorable and classic. There's no stupid skits or real duds either, it's a complete sound and yet at the same time... eclectic. He's got all kinds of musical influence going on there yet manages to make it all sound coherent.

And "Homecoming" is probably my favourite Kanye track.

Graduation is so much better than his first two.

FreeDoom wrote:Homecoming Is a great track. I don't know though...I will admit I am in the minority that think Late registration is the best of at least his first 3 albums...I feel 808's is to different to be judged in with these but it depends on my mood on what is better between LR & DTF. I don't know, Maybe it is just the type of feel that Graduation has that does not appeal to me but I struggle to see how it is better than the 2 previously mentioned album. It is a great collection of songs but I feel it detours to much and does not all fit together.Like I said it is prob just me tho.

I think it flows more cohesively than any of his others.

The idea of graduating, not just in the literal sense in conjunction with his theme of his first trio of albums of course but... he embodies the spirit of... becoming your own man and if you listen to the lyrics in "I Wonder"... some of his most conscious lyrics.

His thoughts and confidence are more accomplished than on his prior two. You begin to see him run more freely with his own personality rather than simply relying on samples or more pedestrian concepts. He comes into his own, and it's more musical, and more stimulating for me.

I love 808s & Heartbreak too. I'd probably say my favourite three Kanye albums are Graduation, 'Dark Fantasy and '808s.

Call me crazy but I prefer Home over Homecoming, aka this over this, I get such different tones from both songs even though they're basically saying the same thing.

And 2006 was far from one of the worst years in Hip Hop.
