To be fair back before downloading it was much harder to get number 1 singles and albums, much more competition + labels would invest in artists, nowadays most labels only sign artists that are guaranteed to sell. People like Elton John, David Bowie, and Prince probably would be dropped if they were signed today since they didnt have hits til their 2nd or 3rd albums.

I agree, quit thinking about sales, the smart people get their stuff for free anyways, i don't mean to throw you off... all that matters is our freedoms and this just proves ignorance... look inward instead on the real important facts about our world, and you will see the puppets exposed... swoosh...

Who cares about sales?

This isn't about sales, it's just disappointing to the world, to me and to you to see those kind of artists sell more than the legends of music and the artist that deserved to sell more.
It's disappointing that they're the ones ruling the music world right now.

Why would you worry about that? Everyone with sense knows that guys like the Beatles were more talented than Katy Perry will ever be. No one is even going to link the two together so this list doesn't make any sense.

Just the way the world is right now, blame marketing techniques and television. There is still great music out there, it just doesn't reach the top of the charts often.

The effect of overplayed mainstream pop and the easyness of being able to download a single track from your own home and for 99p means that tracks can sell crazy amounts in recent years. Still suprised single tracks sell so well given the simple option of downloading it for free.

Never take music sales & charting places seriously anyway, good music has a rare chance when so much mainstream pop is brainwashed into people via tv, radio & internet.

Ummmm your all also over looking that these facts are comparing two, VERY different eras in music. Plus, the population and access to music have added to sales.
