Maybe to most of you is common knowledge, but I was wondering what is your opinion, musically ... or in any other way you think it can be defined. Your answers will be appreciated.

& btw, would you describe Em as hip hop or rap artist or it doesnt really make any difference as they are the same?

I am not stupid, just cunt know everything. :D

thanks.

sorry if its wrong forum or subforum or .......... :'(

I think when a lot of people refer to rap and hip hop these days (like people who only listen to rock music and don't really know anything about other genres), they'll use "rap" to talk about rappers like Flo Rida, LMFAO, Pitbull, Ke$ha, etc. and they'll use "hip hop" to talk about artists like Jay-Z, T.I., 50 Cent, Eminem, etc.

Most people these days I've talked to seem to basically differentiate between the two based on the instrumentals. Flo Rida raps on pop and dance instrumentals, so they'd say he's "rap", but they wouldn't say he's "hip hop", because he doesn't rap on hip hop beats (anymore).

I don't know what the REAL difference between those are, but I think that's the way most people seem to use those terms now.

i usually tend to refer the more hardcore stuff as rap and more uplifting stuff as hip-hop... i dont think theres really a right answer to this question though... its all open to interpretation.

Rap is a part of the hip hop culture. Hip hop is rap (MCing), Djing, graffiti writing, B-boying (break dance). So, there can be only different kinds of rap/rappers. Like Eminem and Soulja Boy. I would not put Soulja Boy and dudes like that in the rap category. Maybe some "crap-rap" category.

I've thought about this and I decided that Hip Hop has mostly evolved into a split of Hip Hop and rap. I like to think that the more lyrical and thought provoking songs are rap then everything else is Hip Hop.

Rap:
Eminem
Jay-Z

Hip Hop:
Soulja Boy
Lil Jon

But at time both can be combined to be both rap and hip hop.

Pretty much this tbh. Hip-hop is the lifestyle.

Hip-Hop is the culture, Rap is the genre.

See the thing is, everybody thinks they can be a rapper, when in reality they don't know shit about the culture. You can't just write a couple of rhymes, and instantly call yourself a rapper.
