Some people hated it? I wish it was the official one.

I've always enjoyed this verse over the other two All She Wrote verses tbh. It's just so laid back and calm and flows so perfectly smooth with the beat.
It kinda does remind me of his cypher delivery now that you mention it, but I don't think they are all that similar.

I am hearing you, I read that you like it.

I was just questioning the hatred for it from others, as it's class.

I prefer the unofficial verse only because of the smoothness on his voice. But the verse that went on TIP's album is better rhymes.

Dope song though

There are also embarassing moments. The teddy-bear/bi-polar line is just awkward. It's not only incredibly cheesy, the delivery is patronising. I don't need the beat to stop and a moment of silence to consider the pun. I am intelligent enough to draw the parallels the moment I hear it. There are plenty of places in Em's old tracks where the beat could have stopped like this to allow the audience to consider what Em is saying, but that just defeats the whole purpose of the line. You want to relisten to song to go back for a second listen.

The verses aren't bad, but eargasmic? You must be easily pleased!

So what, a few bad puns don't ruin a verse for me.

Em also had bad lines in his prime to me. He had moments where he needlessly swore too much and it just seemed to be ott and like it would have been better without so much as... if you swear all the time, it takes much of the punch away.

He also said some cheesy macho things now and then...

And, Em is aware the puns are stupid, it's just wordplay, it doesn't bother me.

His latest material isn't really thought-provoking or as much about each specific line like it used to be, it's more about flow, style and wordplay. It's more face-value for now but, it's a period.

The verse were eargasmic to me in flow, and delivery. And no, I'm not easily pleased.

Agreed on the needless swearing (I was actually tempted to make a topic suggesting that some of his best verses have basically no swearing in them) but IMHO the terrible puns and punchlines (which are numerous) are just way OTT. They sound forced. Listen to 'Last Hit' and the flow and composition is just so smooth and easy. I guess most of his rhymes since his comeback (on his albums) have been formulated like The Real Slim Shady. A post-relapse tradition from acculumated lyric sheets.

Flow and style? I feel that neither of these categories are as good as his pre-encore days.

It's not about it being 'as good' for me as it's pretty hard to compare for one thing. I can't compare his style on Hell: The Sequel to The Eminem Show as it's totally different.

I can't rate a comedy movie against a horror movie, makes no sense.

I find the hyper, precise, fast nature of those verses, just objectively to my ears - very satisfying. I'm not comparing, I'm not saying it's better or worse than before... it doesn't matter to me. You can't deny what sounds good or bad to you. And I love the fast / slow mix and aimless anger.

He needs to drop it now as he maxed it out in 2010, but I love it for what it was.

Eminem changes every single album so I never get too hung up on a style as I know he will sound different in a year or two anyway. I take it for what it is.

That's something I'm worried about this time around, I'm not sure he is gonna sound different on the next album.

He already is.

Miller1121 wrote:Yeah but HTS and Recovery are "similar". The jump from SSLP and MMLP was big, then from MMLP to TES was huge (mostly musically) and then TES to Encore was... well you know. Then Encore to Relapse, and then Relapse to Recovery. I just dont think his next album is gonna be that big of a jump. It will be similar to Recovery/HTS.

Most of the songs off HTS weren't recorded that long after Recovery and they weren't even planned to be on the EP.

There's no reason to think this though.

I have this suspicion too but that's just probably because he's found success with this style / sound, commercially and because he's so far into his career.

But he's changed every single album.

And the jump from SSLP to MMLP was not that huge. He jumped artistically, and became better at what he was doing, became more self-aware in his own music, he made it all mean more. But stylistically... I think "Drug Ballad" was even made for SSLP or like, right after he finished it.

His voice isn't that much deeper on MMLP and he has similar rhyme patterns and flows sometimes. It was more-so the music and content.

There's no reason to suspect he'd stay the same over two albums at this point.

Stylistically, much of MMLP was self-imposed. The voice on Amytville was perfected on purpose. Watch his Grammy's performance where he performed Stan, and his voice is no different to that used on the SSLP. Even his early MMLP gigs (the one in Brixton, London for example) made use of the SSLP voice.

He changes his voice to suit the style he uses for an album. There is a significant jump, IMHO, between his composure on 'Nail in the Coffin' and 'Like Toy Soldiers', despite the fact that the two songs were made relatively close to one another. I think he sounds slightly bored on purpose in the latter (obviously the drugs play a huge part). Jimmy Crack Corn is a great example: the voice used on the verses there makes him sound a lot younger. I'd actually like to listen to a whole album in this voice (without the accent for the chorus).
