Which seems like a more reasonable career to pursue?

Just the other day my drama teacher told me that I have tremendous potential as an actor. I've always wanted to be an actor, but ever since I started writing I thought maybe I could make a rapping career. I need some advice, I'm only 15 now but I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

Neither one should be an actually career to pursue, since the chances of making it are really slim. Find something else you like and go to college while making music and acting on the side. Besides, you're 15 and you probably have no clue what you really want in life.

if you love both things, don't give up. But stay in school, because you never know how things will be , so it's better to have a plan B, in case things don't go as you planned.

I remember really wanting to go into music when I was choosing which university to attend. But my family said they would never support me if I went that route, so I choose Criminology to pretty much shut them up. Seeing as how what I'm doing now in no way relates to music or Criminology, I wish I had just did as much artsy shit in college as I could just to get the experience of it. If I had known that the word Criminology wasn't going to be printed on my degree, I would have just taken some fun major and just lied to my family and whatever job I applied for about which major I actually chose.

Don't listen to this. If it's what you love, pursue it. But you have to realize it will take a crazy amount of work and dedication. I'm pretty sure every other kid at my high school wanted to be a rapper, but they never put in the work or bothered learning what it takes.

You don't have to be Eminem or Brad Pitt to do either of those careers. You could easily have a behind the scenes job that you equally love. If you want these careers to be famous and like your idols, don't do it. If you just want to be in the industry, go for it. It is a perfectly attainable goal. Never go for a career just for the money and prestige. TBH you most likely will never be a known rapper, but you could find that you love being a studio engineer. Either acting or music, I strongly suggest going to college for it. Skipping college to play with FL Studio in your basement is not a smart route.

My friend has a degree in film. Two years later, she still doesn't have a steady job. She works as a temp, hoping the jobs will last long enough for a decent paycheck. But it could just be the economy...

I still say fuck it and go for what you want. She had the best time of her life making student films while I wrote probably hundreds of pages for research papers on common sense shit.

My suggestion is to stick to those two as a secondary option. However, given your age and the free time you get during high school, you have enough time to practice the shit out of both. I think rapping is more difficult so spend more time on that. If you get to become great at it (referring to rap, as I've had friends from class being extra dope at 16-17) you can save some money for decent equipment and gain a certain success. Now, I doubt you'll get signed or something, but if you become good and you know that, and if you get to make decent songs, than that should fulfill you enough. Signing deals, having a lot of fans is just a bonus, trust me. So basically, you can study economy but still get satisfied out of rap and acting.
