Who are the next larger than life rappers?

Postby TJMarrs » Jan 18th, '12, 07:36

It seems that there's a huge rapper or rappers for every generation. There was Tupac and Biggie in the nineties and then Eminem and Jay-Z who took those roles in the Two-thousands.

So my question is ...
Who do you think will be the next larger than life rapper(s) for a new generation?

You could probably consider Lil Wayne for that role already but who else is there?

Thoughts...

OFWGKTA is about to become huge. They already are, but they still have that "underground rave" feel to them. Obviously if anyone becomes big time, it will be Tyler, your entire group won't make it big. Give them another year, I think they are going to be important for upcoming music. Different and controversial, is what makes legends, and they have that, no doubt.

Well, if we're talking about the impact on the culture, to add on to the list you just named, probably none. Perhaps Kendrick Lamar in some time.
Apart from that it should be worth noting that there are plenty of artists that are really on a high level, perhaps higher than those named previously, but just not in a hip-hop culture way. Examples are CunninLynguists, Blue Scholars, Aesop Rock.

Don't shoot me for saying this but I can, for some reason, see MGK getting huge in that sense.

He's got that crazy cult following that is growing by the minute. His fans are beyond loyal.

And don't take it as me saying he's the greatest rapper coming up or anything like that.. He just has that certain vibe about him.

Yep I agree. Mgk can make it big. His fanbase is the most loyal fanbase ever, it's like Bieber's.

As much as it sickens me to say this, I think drake appeals to the more general rap fan. Which in this age of music means he will constantly be in the spotlight and looked at as an amazing lyricist. This is just from what I hear living on a bigger college campus, you guys would be sickened to see these arrogant ass college kids talk up these mediocre rappers like their gods just because they appeal to a more general audience.. :shakehead:

Yeah, I fuckin hate college crowds. I was talking to a kid once who was saying how Drake is so dope, and I was like 'lolwut' and he asked who I liked and I mentioned Em and he's like, "YEA OKAY! He's the biggest homophobic guys out there!". Lol...

Dude where I'm at, kids are still raving about the Carter IV....playing "It's Good" or whatever song it was that dissed Jay-Z all day...It's the worst

^ Tbh, sometimes I wanna die while watching my facebook.

Wannabe smokers with Wiz, Soulja, Dubstep and some saying Lil B/Waka and Soulja are the best rappers ever. This sounds so cliche, but it's really like that.
