Kendrick Lamar Officially Signs Aftermath/Interscope

HipHopDX short post so I'll just paste it here:

Kendrick Lamar and Black Hippy have closed a deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records.

According to FADER, Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith says that the pair have "just closed" a joint venture deal with the labels. K. Dot's official label debut Good Kid in a Mad City will release jointly between Top Dawg, Aftermath and Interscope. All future releases by ScHoolBoy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock will release through Top Dawg and Interscope.

Other information regarding the deal will be announced in the near future. HipHopDX will keep you updated.

But yeah, I think it would be a bad decision for any artist to sign a joint deal between Interscope and Aftermath.

Agreed.

If you're not superstar status, you're not going anywhere on Aftermath. Since only a very small percentage of artists, even in the mainstream, have that "superstar" quality to them, it doesn't make much sense to ink a deal with Aftermath.

Dr. Dre can't even commit to his own album, what makes you think he'll commit to yours?

Current artists - Dre, Em', 50, Kendrick & Slim da Mobster (hasn't dropped)
Past artists - Antonio McLendon, Bishop Lamont, Brooklyn, Busta Rhymes, Dion, Eve, G.A.G.E, Game, Hayes, Hittman, King Tee, Joell Ortiz, Marsha Ambrosius, Raekwon, Rakim, RBX, Stat Quo, The Firm, Last Emperor, Truth Hurts..

Aftermath really is a hit and miss label (mainly miss) with both established and new artists.

Edit: Just to add, the only artists out of these to drop are Dre, Em, 50, Game, Busta, The Firm & Truth Hurts (which is 7/25 artists that have dropped, with 4 out of these 7 only dropping 1 album on Aftermath)

I think Kendrick will be a different story. There's no doubt in my mind that his album will come soon. Slim the Mobster, on the other hand...

What are everyone's thoughts on Slim? I don't hear much about him. I thought his mixtape was pretty good. He seems like a good mix between the 50 Cent era types, and the new age Kendrick types. Thoughts?

This is wonderful news, thanks for this. About time if you ask me. Kendrick is dope and if any label can help him be successful and sell it's Aftermath/Interscope...this could also lead to a Kendrick/Em collab...

@Kill You - It could be a bad move all the same though if careful attention isn't payed to the development of his career by Dre and others at Interscope/Aftermath, I'm looking forward to it though!

I haven't really listened to Slim, I guess i will if i find time.
