Nas killed it, I hope this is the last beat Salaam has on here though, those drums are weak as hell
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified

Nice. Content's nothing special, but the verses are enjoyable. Nas flowed well. Some lines his flow sounded epic like the "Rocking Roberto Cavalli no shirt on convertible Mazy" line.

Hook's annoying.

Meh.

I'm a Nas fan, and... good verses as usual but, nothing new really. Doesn't excite me.

N.Y State of Mind

EminemBase wrote:I think that track perfectly complements the use of his rap style - the low-down, grimey, laid back, smooth as fuck flow, the descriptiveness is great and... I'm not sure he's ever been as good again.

Take "Ether" for example, yeah it's a good diss track but when you actually break down the disses, it's just gay puns, it's not very intelligent or original.

Where as the Nas of "N.Y. State of Mind" was eloquent, and he always is... naturally, but it seemed so effortless and poetic on that track, everything about it works. He sounds completely natural but everything he says / the way he says it has some substance.

And, it has my favourite Nas line...

"I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death"

I also really like "I Can", which I'm not saying is one of his top tracks, I mean... I know the chorus is a little cheesy but the intent is noble and his execution is excellent. And the way he breaks down history, lyrically, so smoothly on that track, is great.
