I disagree when you say Hop > Yela, until Hopsin starts developing different flows, rhyme schemes, concepts etc, then Yela is still better in my eyes.

Hop's dope, no doubt.

Yela > Hop & Kendrick Lamar IMO. He has touched on so many genres, blended them, created an original style, has so many vibes, great lyrics, and nice overall MC. The only genre he hasn't touched is Reggae and he has even blended up to three genres (maybe more, I DUNNO) into one track and exacuted flawlessly. That's why I love Yela and he is currently my second favorite rapper though he switches second place with Kendrick Lamar a lot. Yelawolf > Kendrick for overall artist and MC (not taking away from K.Dot, he nice) but Arena Rap >Trunk Muzik = Section.80 (different styles, hard to choose) > OD > Slumdon Bridge > Radioactive. That's their most current material and Slumdon Bridge could be higher ranked if it was longer.

Edit: It's hard to compare K.Dot and Yela cause they have different approaches but Yela's artistic view far goes beyond K.Dot's horizon imo. Yela can be chill, relaxed, emotional, hardcore, etc. while K.Dot usually just chill (which i like don't get me wrong) And Hop ain't evolving as much as an artist imo but he still amazing rapper though lacks a large amount of originality but idgaf i still bump whatever he puts out.

Why do you say that in regards to Yelawolf? I seriously hope your wrong.

No, I'd say he's right.

Thinking Yelawolf will gain mainstream appreciation is unrealistic. He isn't marketable in the hip hop genre, and he's too hip hop for rock. He'll be like Tech 9, but making less money with questionable SR support.

He is a great artist, but most of the greats are just below the radar.

I know I'm in the minority but I think he actually might. He is actually starting to get a pretty loyal following and the best thing about him is he constantly is releasing new singles and mixtapes. I could see his next record doing pretty well sales wise. A lot has been learned since the launch of Radioactive.

A loyal following is great, that's really all you need.

That doesn't make you a mainstream success though.

Just look at ICP, Tech N9ne, and Haystak. They are all doing well independently, but none of them are mainstream successes.

Tech n9ne is actually a "mainstream success" now to some degree though. Besides MTV hottest MC's list (to which J Cole ddnt even make the list) he basically ticked all the boxes

Why does Yela get so much hate?
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Alright, I'll give you Tech N9ne.

He's pretty much there now, I guess. I just don't listen to him as much anymore, so I guess I'm not up on what he's been doing. That's great though, for real.

My point is this though: a loyal following is essential to success in music, but it's not what necessarily makes mainstream success. The majority of fans out there are pretty fickle, and only getting what's in at the moment.

Fuck the mainstream though. Independent artists make some serious cash, with far lower sales numbers than a major label artist would need to make the same kind of money. Tech N9ne is probably ridiculously rich now, considering his high sales numbers and indie profit distribution.

Anyway, I kind of feel like Yelawolf could have done everything up to Radioactive on his own. He didn't need that Interscope co-sign on Trunk Muzik. It did get him onto Shady Records, though. The question is: is that a good thing?

If Yelawolf makes music any more radio-friendly than Radioactive, it won't be worth listening to. Some of the songs on Radioactive are a little bit too sweet, and the overall album lacks the gritty genius that was present on Trunk Muzik. That's coming from someone who likes Radioactive, too.

So can anyone tell me why Yelawolf will blow up? He put out a radio-friendly album, he's signed to Shady Records, and he makes good music. If the problem is with promotion, what makes you think next time around will be different? If anything, it'll be worse, because Interscope won't back an album they think won't sell well.
