This is exactly how Em's fans from SSLP felt about TES. Some from MMLP too.

I always liked the album, myself. I'm not sure which one would be considered more commercial, but if I was pressed for an answer, I'd say Recovery.

Since when does emotional track dictate whether or not an artist is a sell out? I guess Tupac sold out?

I think the production is what makes Recovery seem so commercial.

That, and the features. Both albums were very commercial in comparison to their direct predecessors though.

Idk why everyone is saying recovery is soo bad... Eminem is sick no matter who he collabs with, theres way too many people hating on recovery and it is truly not a bad album at all... Maybe compared to his first albums but then he released BME and began killing it once again.. he has definitely not fell off, he just collabs with people that he dissed in his earlier career hahsa

@I'mHungry I'd say the content on Recovery is decent.

I mean, there are songs that are just punchline rap. Moreso than on Eminem show, sure. But the emotional songs on Recovery are very deep, whereas the deep songs on TES don't go as far. One exception to this is the song for his daughter on TES, but that kind of vulnerability isn't repeated.

TES has some songs that aren't especially deep. Business and Say What You Say come to mind.

I'm pretty sure even deaf people can read the lyrics to a song like Going Through Changes and appreciate the content.

Speaking from results ? I'd say The Eminem Show. Those personal tales have seem to have gathered the most interest by consumers compared to Recovery (that's what it seems like from my perspective anyway) and the album sold more the first week

Upon creation? The Eminem Show had waaay more qualities going for it than just selling records. He was still expressing himself, personally (although not as much the MMLP and it was more towards specific parties as opposed to just society). Plus, he was still showing that he was indeed a "Top Rapper" and could keep producing quality music. Which he did, even if it was an alternate style.

I can't say all of this for Recovery.

That's obviously not the only song on Recovery with content, and I think you know that.

Anyway, you've demonstrated that you're not likely to contribute much to this discussion aside from single sentence troll bait. I'm not saying you're actually trolling, as I'm willing to accept the fact that you just might be an ignorant asshole. Of course, I could be wrong on both counts, but your posts in this thread don't really support that idea (so far).

Overall, I think Em wanted to put out something that he thought the fans wanted with Recovery, as he did with Relapse. With TES, I think he did what he wanted, because he wanted to. Hopefully he has found that feeling again for the next album.
