As you can see from your own quote, you have about 4 (or 5 if we include Beautiful and Careful emo) concepts that are being executed in one album. Variety is ok and i'm not saying anything is overly out of place... its just that you dont NEED to cover all those themes in one album. You dont NEED to follow that progression to come out of Relapse.

Aside- It reminds me of how stan had an awesome story line with 12 verses but he had to cut them down to 8 because it bogged down the song. It was better when it was more succinct. That is why i've always preferred SSAD to SWA. Clarity can get lost in the complexity of multies or (like in Relapse) an overly ambitious sequence when a little re-arrangement could make it shorter yet more palatable.

It's not a variety of themes, it's the 12 metaphorical steps to sobriety. He even mentions it in the first skit of the album.

Truth is, i've tried unsuccessfully to reconcile the 12 steps and Relapse. To me, it was a completely different set-up.

When Not Afraid came out, I agreed wholehearedly with that line. As of today, I've softened up to Relapse (and that accent). I still don't like songs like Medicine Ball, though.

Everything blended together because it was meant to be, the skits, the songs...They all complete each other.

That's one of the things I loved about Relapse, Recovery felt like a mixtape because it sounded like a punch of songs thrown randomly that had no connections to the previous song or even to the theme itself.

True true, I do loveee the way the skits lead into songs. Like the Berman skit into "The Way I Am" where hes in mid sentence saying "Aight man, whatever".
My Darling WOULD HAVE been like this had it been put after the Dr. West skit.

So while the skits telling the stories are cool and you're right, Recovery did feel more like a mixtape, we were sort of suprised, and the tracks are a little less boring. Plus most of the songs were different in what it they talking about. Relapse's subject matter started to feel like Wiz Khalifa's by the end...

I sort of feel like skits are played out at this point.

They seem forced. They were great on the first few albums, and even Relapse, but it seems like they're being done for the sake of them being done now. I know they work well with the concept of the album, but it just seems to cheapen it for me...I'm not sure why.

A mixtape would be great though. Some extra material, fill that bastard half full of skits.
