It's alright overall, but... meh. I feel hip-hop is in a shit state again.

2009 / 2010 felt good. It feels like there's a lot of crap and compromise again now though.

This is his SECOND album ffs. This should be his classic... There's some nice moments on it but, nothing amazing, incredibly original or new, nothing hugely different. It's nothing special. Sigh.

Also, he basically admits he's compromised himself, on "Where Are You"... but it's as if he thinks admitting it and doing a song about it, or thinking it's ironic, excuses it :confusion:

Sick of features, and sick of potential new legends selling out IMMEDIATELY now.

Either that or, just a lack of imagination. Maybe this really is his best now... SIGH!

(by the way, I don't think B.o.B has sold out with his thoughts. But the music is more generic now, less organic, less interesting... but actually, it's not even really that he's sold-out much, it's just that it feels like retreaded lyrics, a lack of ideas... it's just rapping about rapping.)

Everybody is just rapping about rapping. Rapping about their status, their success... I mean, making music about the success of the music you're making :confusion: it's almost profoundly stupid.

Where the fuck are the concepts. Where's the groundbreaking shit. Will there ever be any again...

There are plenty of good albums with great concepts and fresh ideas.

This is not one of them. B.o.B. had a lot of potential, but as of today, he is officially garbage to me. No substance, no desire to create great music.. Just does what will make him money.

Okay, show me an amazing concept song of late...

Also, I would hardly say B.o.B has 'no substance'. It's just peppered, and the music is more generic.

Really? that's it?

A remix... which is good but as I say, just rapping about rapping :confusion: it's hardly conceptual is it. It's just rap about rap, more real life / self-analytical shit. Same old.

As for "Growin' Up in the Gutter" - I love it, it's new stylistically but Yela didn't bring the goods on Radioactive conceptually either. Has its moments but, is a letdown.

Seriously, think of the 90s, think of the originality... where is it now?

Everybody is so limited. Think of the possibilities... not just with 'punchlines' or fucking, rap about rap, but... oh my god, it's so limitless. Sigh.

I'm still waiting, blow my mind with something... ?

This. May have to read the comments or Google to fully understand the concept. I didn't understand it the first time.

If you want concepts listen to some Kendrick Lamar songs, he has some pretty good ones. Embase, list me some of your favorite concepts, like just write them out. Maybe post one you would do, I know you've done it before but I love reading your posts on it.

Ah yes, good point about CunninLynguists.

I saw an appraisal of A Piece of Strange and the reviews coincided...

And I put them on a mental back burner as in, in my mind - 'music to explore list'...

I'm so glad you mentioned them, as I'm now annoyed that I would have continued to not remember (which I know sounds irrational, as how would I know that I wasn't knowing? - lmao. But, I know NOW that I would have been not knowing that I wasn't knowing. So that's annoying! makes me feel paranoid about forgetting things. Which is why I have about 10,000 separate wordpad documents of shit to remember or check or achieve. Like a crazy person, as it's over and over, and just... how paranoid is that? lmao) or probably not remembered to check them any time soon, if not for this!

Anyway, I won't listen to that song right now as I wanna listen to them, from scratch.

They definitely seem like they're probably offering more of what I seek; somewhat abstract and conceptual. I want the chronological experience of each album though, I wanna hear them grow.

But thanks for that, as I'm gonna start with them tomorrow.

Just fin listening to the album.

The worst three tracks: (all contain featured artists & artists i dislike except T.I.)

Out of My Mind feat Nicki Minaj
Arena feat Chris Brown & T.I.
Castles feat Trey Songz

The solo tracks are the best. The Taylor Swift & Morgan Freeman features were the only really good features.

Not as good as Adventures of Bobby Ray but still a great listen overall.

Having listened to the album more... there are more highlights than I had originally noticed (is usually the case), but still a disappointment overall.

Due to the amount of features and lack of growth.

Taylor Swift does her thing on "Both of Us," but the beat B.o.B. raps over is horrendous and annoying.
They say the good die young... Proof, YOU'RE NEVER OVER.
