Changes is the best political rap song

Postby Jdubem » Apr 29th, '12, 00:18

I wrote a 7 page paper for class on this song comparing it to Hamlet's soliloquy in the shakespeare play. Obviously the song is very highly regarded, but I think you really have to look at the lyrics closely to fully understand its brutally honest social commentary. It's crazy how this song shows us so many social problems with modern day examples of power and fear which hamlet's soliloquy is famous for describing so perfectly. Tupac really does a great job of showing the common struggle of trying to create change and make things better in a highly imperfect world which forcibly pushes you into doing the opposite. It might be too real for some people, but thats why its so awesome.

Political songs that are actually timeless like this are extremely rare. This shit will live on forever.

Oh yeah without a doubt. I meant more nowadays in hip hop, but yeah back then there were definitely some great ones. Check out Eve of Destruction Barry Mguire probably my favorite to come out of that musically rich era.

Changes is like my all-time favorite song, so I guess that makes it my favorite political rap song too.

Yeah it really is that good. Its as personal as it is political which is probably why I like it better than other political songs
