Most Disturbing Books You've Read

Postby Emadyville » Apr 28th, '12, 00:01

I was wondering what are the most disturbing/disgusting/horrific books that members have read. I've always been a fan of books that make me cringe and was hoping someone has read something worth reading in this category.

American Psycho- I think is hands down the most disturbing book I've ever read by far, but an awesome read at that.

So any good ones out there?

The Rats by James Herbert. I read it when I was eleven, and uh...well, let's just say that's why I hate rats. I'm actually still afraid that I'll walk outside and there will be a big pack of bloodthirsty rats waiting to eat me, or that a rat will jump out of my toilet...the list goes on. Fucking disgusting book.

A really awesome book though is "1984" by George Orwell. I suppose it's slightly disturbing depending on how you look at it. Great read, check it out!

I read that for a requirement in HS, fuck that shit. Nope. Nope. Nope.

It sucks because the government is slowly turnibg into that :/

Sounds disturbing but I guess I'm going for more of disgusting things in terms of humans...and all that is horrific with what people do to themselves or others. Wow that sounds fucked up, but you know what I mean. Plus you read it when you were 11, I wonder how it would affect you if you read it now.

I didn't think 1984 was particularly disturbing.

First book I thought of was "Brother of Sleep" (original: Schlafes Bruder) by Robert Schneider.

But then I remembered books like "All Quiet on the Western Front" (book on World War I) by Erich Maria Remarque and other books I read on wars (especially WWII) and 'disturbing' gains whole new meaning.

I once started "Green City in the Sun" by Barbara Wood, but its beginning horrified me that much, I never continued reading it: It begins with the description of female genital cutting and I remember how that disturbed me.
