Unless I'm reading the wrong tweet, to me it looks like the only "fake" comment is directed at the festival itself. Like they pretend to pick artists based solely on talent, not necessarily popularity, but fake like they don't. Eminem doesn't pick the artists, so this doesn't apply to him. I suppose you could argue "trendy" is an insult, but I think it's expected that the most popular rapper on the planet be at a corporate festival.
And the SXSW thing is directed at anyone selling over a million records. Which, I can kind of understand. SXSW is an industry convention, with artist Showcases. It's not supposed to be the same as a traditional music festival, though that's what it's become.
Artists selling over 1 Million records don't need to showcase their talent, they can hold a concert anywhere. That's all he's saying.
Again, I'm not a fan of the guy. He's a douchebag. But I do think people are overreacting.
