TDE Anticipation & Appreciation

Postby Man1x » May 10th, '12, 00:35

Really, these guys are the best doing it now a days. They represent the future of hip-hop and maybe they will be able to take it over and put it back on course. But holy fuck, they have made some classics. I mean Section.80 and Habits & Contradictions are easily classics. They are probably, truthfully, the only classics from 2011-2012. It seems like Control System is and will follow this pattern. The weak link IMO is Jay Rock but whatever. However, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, & SchoolBoy Q are some of the best new rappers to achieve some success and branch out from the underground even though they are able to keep their sound and not sell out. They are the model of what a artist should be, and they are being rewarded for it. I mean, you would have thought that Kendrick Lamar would have shadowed the rest of the group like Eminem did to D12 but SchoolBoy Q & Ab-Soul are able to climb out of that shadow. These guy are just fucking talented. I haven't heard one bad song out of this camp yet. Long Term Mentality, Overly Dedicated, & Setbacks are their above average albums, with the new ones being classics so far. I mean, they get me excited as fuck, and that cover for Control System is sick. These guys have the potential to be the best hip-hop group to ever enter the game, and also be able to have solo careers on top of it. So anticipate and discuss Black Hippy in this thread.

Upcoming Releases:

Control System - Ab-Soul 5.11.12
Good Kid In A Mad City (I know the title's not confirmed) - Kendrick Lamar Summer '12

Edit: I'd also like to mention that they got some fucking good producers. The beats on their albums are so original and compliment these artists so well, I really enjoy the production on these albums they have recently been putting out more than any Kanye album. I think their producers are better than Kanye West honestly, and their albums sound so cohesive and flow nicely. I mean Section.80 and Habits & Contradiction's production is up there with The Chronic 2001, The Eminem Show, and MBDTF for me.

Here is their most recent track:

Here's an over looked track:

Okay what? The thread is clear, it's an anticipation & appreciation thread. You just post your favorite TDE songs if you want and discuss them and their work.

All of Black Hippy's work is amazing. Control System is better than Habits & Contradictions in my opinion but they are so close in quality that it comes down to personal preference. I love them all, the last generation of albums, which are Follow Me Home, Section.80, Habits & Contradictions, & Control System are all amazing, the last three being classics. However, before you listen to Control System I suggest you listen to Ab-Soul's "Long Term Mentality."

I like Meek Mill, but I always get him mixed up with Mac Miller, LOL.

Section 80 is really amazing. I can listen to it over and over again, best album of 2011 and more for me. And thanks for the advice, I'll listen to Long Term Mentality first.

Section.80 never gets old to me either, it's always fresh and I always hear something new. It's definitely the best offering that TDE has produced to date, but Control System isn't to far behind and either is Habits & Contraditions. Also, realize that Long Term Mentality isn't as good as Control System, it also has a different sound. I suggested it because I think it makes you appreciate how an artist has evolved and to see where they have come from. That being said, it's still an amazing album. It sounds closer to Section.80, but I shouldn't say that because you really can't compare them. I can't wait until the Black Hippy album now, Kendrick said they were working on one and that'd come out after Ab-Soul released his album. I'm also excited for the Kendrick x J Cole album, and I hope Good Kid In A Mad City tops Section.80.
