J. Cole Confirms Joint Album With Kendrick Lamar

Postby flyingmonkey10 » May 13th, '12, 21:22

J. Cole says he and Kendrick Lamar are four or five songs deep on their joint project.

A collaborative mixtape between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar has been long-rumored, but now, it appears that the project is finally becoming a reality.

“I just started working with Kendrick the other day," revealed Cole in an interview with Hot 97.5's . "We got it in, finally, again. [It's gonna be an] album, man,” he clarified.

“We actually worked, bouncing ideas, which was great. The vibe was so good that it was like, man, that’s absolutely gonna happen," he added.

“We got maybe four or five [songs] together."

During the interview, J. Cole praised Kendrick and Top Dawg Entertainment for placing a value on each of their releases. "So when Kendrick blows, you can go back and buy his mixtapes - because he called his mixtapes albums. So I really respect how they did it."

His production can be amazing to decent, he isn't as consistent as most producers. However, for the most part, he's crazy good rapper (just not my style). I prefer Sounwave & Dee.Jay.Dave (TDE's in house producers) to J. Cole's production and, as a matter of fact, most of the producers in the game (including Kanye). TDE's producers are crazy talented and versatile; they produced the majority Section.80, Habits & Contradictions, Control System, and nearly all of TDE's other projects. The only thing I see coming from J Cole really is that it will give Kendrick a lot of attention. I hope there are Black Hippy features, good production that isn't crafted with the intent of being a hit but is instead innovate and has a classic sound to it, and that the two artists bring their best efforts to the table. Good features would be amazing as well.

It's called Black Hippy:

Kendrick Lamar
Ab-Soul
SchoolBoy Q
Jay Rock

Also, I don't agree with Wale, Asher, and Hopsin is kinda meh to me now. Also, Punch (a.k.a Top Dawg, the President of TDE [Top Dawg Entertainment, the label that signed the Black Hippy artists as a group and as solo acts], is a better rapper than most people in the game now a days. He just never wanted a solo career so he only appears on Black Hippy tracks here and there. TDE/Black Hippy is the future of good rap along with J Cole, XV, Childish Gambino, Jon Connor (sadly he won't ever be know past the underground), and Yelawolf. For the record, Hopsin is good but I've expressed my views on him here before. Just my opinion, don't hate :sweating: , I respect yours.

There's All City Chess Club, even though they never really released anything. And Cole, Kendrick and Hopsin are not in it.

They'll never be able to make a album because there are too many member. This means it will be stupid from a business standpoint because they will never generate a profit for themselves. The labels will get money but it will be a very hard thing to accomplish with how many different labels these people are signed to.

Also, I'd like to add BJ the Chicago Kid, Javonte, A$AP Rocky, & Big K.R.I.T. to that next generation of rappers list.

i'm loooking forward to this as it will finally force me to give J Cole a proper chance. Ever since that ATROCIOUS verse on "party" by Beyonce i have had ZERO desire to listen to him. I think i listened to only about 5 tracks of Sideline story 2 of which i liked.
