that the year Nas releases HHID also happens to be one of the best years for Hip Hop in the 2000s, I mean you have Game Theory, Fishscale, F&L, Donuts, Audition, SIHKIH, and of course his own album. Granted the mainstream wasn't in the best of shape and could have been doing better but a bunch of really dope albums as well dropped that almost absolve the mainstream of their sins. And no I don't believe that Nas really though Hip Hop was dead during that time, otherwise he wouldn't have been making music.

2006 and 2007 were great years for Hip-Hop. 2008-2011 were kinda more shitty. And yeah, I definitely agree with your point, but when Nas discussed that title, he said that he was referring to "that certain feeling" that was lost. Which is true. He didn't mean that new artists suck or that there isn't enough good (rap) music out there. But if you compare the atmosphere surrounding the early-mid '90s, then there's definitely something lost.
