No, it's a personal song, and the lyrics are very heartfelt. He has other songs meant to make you think. If you listen to the whole album, it's about the rise and fall of his world and how him becoming a "monster" of sorts, in his personal life and with the media, leads to his own destruction. The whole album is crazy deep and introspective. Every song.

Listen to the lyrics, and look them up on Rap Genius if you don't get it. The album is a lyrical masterpiece, in fact.

I don't fuck with Underground rap. It's so boring to me. I can't stand to listen to Immortal Technique or Jedi Mind Tricks. I tried "Dance With The Devil" and I was like "this shit is retarded."

Seriously? One of the best artists out. Have you even listened to Take Care? Drake murders it.

Not all underground rappers are serious rappers; look at rappers like Intuition, Dumbfoundead (Cut + Paste is dope AF), and Wax (at least he used to be underground). I'm not an avid hip hop listener so I can only list a few. Cunninlynguists and Tonedeff are another great example of well balanced music.

There's no reason to deprive yourself of what could be great finds by making generalizations about underground rap like that.

Nah, I listen to some guys like that, I introduced TRShady to Wax I believe. I'm just saying in general, all the "serious" underground rappers are just lame.

Yet Slug, Grieves, Spoonfull, etc. are boring and not 'poetic'? I stopped reading after you listed Kanye West as poetic, and said Slug was boring and uninteresting. Fucking idiot.

You make this same thread every other month.

Didn't say they weren't poetic, but they are boring to me and take themselves too seriously for the most part.

You generalize underground music the same way you criticize people for generalizing mainstream music. Isn't that hypocritical? And what do you mean by 'too serious'? Because Slug is ALWAYS smiling in his later music (you can hear it). Do you mean they try too hard? If so, how? I really don't think you've ever taken the time to actually listen to their music without any sort of bias coming from the fact you dislike the people on this--and possibly other--forum(s) that listen to that genre of hip hop. Personally, I don't distinguish between underground and mainstream. I only distinguish between good and bad. I'll listen to blue print just as quickly as I'll listen to spoonfull or Slug. College dropout is one of my favorite albums for cruising, and so is paper trail by T.I.

With that said though, I still have an affinity for truly emotion-inspiring music. The only place I find that is in Grieves with his imagery, Slug with his amazing storytelling abilities, Brother Ali with his stories / emotional ton and Spoon for just everything. I can't get that emotional attachment from anything in the mainstream.

Yeah perhaps. This whole thread was a generalization though. I like some stuff by Grieves, but just the overall feel at atmosphere of the underground music culture is awful to me.

Ya some underground rappers take themselves too seriously, but just don't listen to them there are probably plenty that dont. I mean look at underground Yela, watch the fucking Box Chevy part 2 video. I would sympathize with the OP if he hadnt mentioned Big Sean.
