Can Eminem really diss, or was he given crappy opponents?

The only people that tried to diss him were Ja Rule, Everlast, Benzino - and Mariah Carey.

I've just been wondering lately if Eminem really IS a good diss artist... or are his opponents total garbage?

Actually Everlast's disses weren't bad, and Em demolished him. So on that alone, Em is really good at disses.

Em is a great diss artist, he's been able to use his opponent's flaws perfectly. The question is whether he would win the battles if his opponents could use his. But I still think he would win, at least 10 years ago.

Think about it this way:

Let's say you're a boxer. A supposedly "good" boxer based on all the opponents you fought; you basically murdered them all. And yeah, you had some great vicious hits here and there.

Now let's say that YOU are a boxer in a professional league. And ALL of your opponents were in a minor league.

People would start questioning whether you're a good boxer or not, because your opponents weren't up to par with your skill.

Of course he can deliver a vicious diss.

It's not about what the other person says, as a good diss track can stand on its own. Regardless of the caliber of his opponents, his diss tracks were brutal.

The skill of his opponents affected the quality of their tracks, not his.

Imagine if Usain Bolt ran an amazing time but was against weak opposition. His time will still be an amazing time.
He didn't run a super fast time because he was versing slow opponents.

i.e. Eminem's diss isn't good just because Mariah can't rap.

whereas your boxing example isn't the same. Being able to beat another boxer relies on how good that boxer is.

Let's not forget Eminem's disses to ICP. Even though I've been an ICP fan longer than an Eminem fan, I love what he said about them in "Marshall Mathers". It had me LOL'ing literally. ICP's disses were, although somewhat childish, weren't bad either.

Who his opponent is makes absolutely no difference on the quality of HIS insults and wit.

"Bully" is a total dismantlement of a man's fucking psyche. Doesn't matter if Benzino has credibility, or is a piece of shit yawnfest racist as he is, the structure and brilliance of the diss... is the same.

It's like this argument that Tyson only knocked out shit fighters.

First of all, Tyson beat many credible fighters but secondly - Tyson's technique is second to none, as is Em's when it comes to dissing.
