I just finished doing the directors commentary for the 'ArtOfRap' DVDs. Don't know when it comes out but lots of bonus footage.

I will definitely be buying the DVD.

Great freestyle, I absolutely love his voice, but I've got the feeling that I heard that before... Or is it just me? Is it new and I'm just hallucinating?

Right... "Are you in that Mood yet?"

But... Wasn't that around 2006/7? Why would he recycle something that is so old? Don't get me wrong, the topic is deep and amazingly well-executed (some lines gave me goosebumps), but... I don't know, if you know you are about to be interviewed for a documentary about "the art of rap", shouldn't you at least try to prepare something...new? Or at least something that nobody but yourself ever heard before (and preferably never will outside of that documentary)? It doesn't have to be unique, just... I don't know. More? For example, keep topic and change lyrics... Okay, he changed delivery a bit (which is probably why I didn't recognize it at first - although the "newborn" line sticks to you pretty admantanly.

I'm aware of that, Mr Montgomery ;) .
Nevertheless, if someone like Ice-T calls you and says "Listen, I wanna do this documentary about the art of rap. Interested in becoming a part of it?", I'd sure as hell sit around all day and try to create something new. Even if I didn't get to drop it, I'd be prepared to do so if asked at the very least.

I give up. I just don't get it...

Especially because Ice specifically asked for all the rappers to freestyle something that "no one else has ever heard".

UK theatrical release poster:

Image

Ice-T's documentary (and directorial debut) fully titled Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and was later acquired by Indomina in a world rights deal; it was released last month in the USA (grossing almost $300,000 thus far), and, as I've learned, will be released in the UK as well, on July 20th.

If you'll be seeing it at the Brixton Ritzy Cinema in South London on opening night, you should know that Ice-T himself will be present for a post screening Q&A.
