The Art of Kanye West

Postby Fa-Q » Jul 4th, '12, 05:58

Listen, the majority of music listeners do not consider hip hop an art form. If you have to explain art, it is not art. The word "art" is obviously arbitrary but bragging about how many drugs you sold in the low end of town or horrible turns of phrases called "punchlines." Just so you know, the following artists haven't put anything out that can be considered "art:" Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, Jay-Z, NaS, Tech N9ne or Tupac. These artists are legends in the hip hop community, are all great lyricists and are the best in their genre. As far as musically, these artists are hardly have scratched the surface. It's like a very, very good pastel painting by an unknown artists to say, maybe the Mona Lisa.

Kanye West transcends music. He is a artist that raps, not the other way around. Let me give you a list of songs that are artistic, rap songs that Mr. West has made.

Welcome To Heartbreak
Runaway
Love Lockdown
Coldest Winter
Devil In A New Dress
Blame Game
Paranoid
Amazing
Flashing Lights
Street Lights
Homecoming
Power
Lost In The World
Say You Will

These songs have artistic integrity. Are not the most lyrical songs by any means, but have culture and zest that other rappers cannot put together. Name an rapper that is putting out songs that are up to par of these songs. Prediction: Kanye is remembered far beyond the aforementioned rappers.

thats just not good. at all idc your argument, he lacks lyrically skill.
kanye west had done a great job at getting stans that cant understand complexity so they follow niceish beats and simplicity.
i thought ud be smarter than that.

but ur right he has lyrically painted the mona lisa. the most over-hyped dull painting that people claim theres a hiden meaning behind and its amazing.

so perfect analogy

Kanye is def a artist, and one of the greatest. You don't have to use multi's every bar to be a great artist.

What a ridiculous opinion.

Sure, Kanye has a 'bigger' sound than those artists. And sure, he pushes the boundaries a little more in terms of his production.

How the fuck does that make him more of an artist than the others you mentioned?

Does the word 'art' apply only to things with 'zest' and 'culture'?

Yeah your argument is dumb. Kanye is a great artist imo, but the rest of your post... *facepalm*

Yeah, but lyrics are the most important thing in rap. And Kanye lacks in that department. Look, not hating on Kanye, if his music is making you feel good, ok. He is one of the biggest rap stars, tons of people enjoy his music and all. But saying that he "transcends music" is just pure dog crap. What the fuck does that even mean? He is a not very good lyricist who can produce, makes rap for the masses, uses autotune, collabs with everybody...so how he went out of the music sphere into something more, please tell me?

I will post something later. But right now I'll just say that Geno and Trex have NO right to criticize Kanye's lyrics or his use of multies since they both love Bizarre. Kanye actually raps about important shit, Bizarre raps about killing Justin Bieber. LOL.

I just wanted to say that, I'll post something later about Yeezus, and how he is almighty.

Bizarre has no content, he makes no sense, his flow is SHIT, he sounds the same on every track and never use multies. YET you criticize his lyrics? Your opinion is invalid. (and I love both of you.)

Any of Em's storytelling trio "97 Bonnie and Clyde" / "Kim" / "Stan" are greater pieces of stand-alone art than all of these combined.

I'm a huge Kanye fan, and his thinking is more expansive, and broader than almost anybody lately but lmao at the idea of Em not being in that vein or Ye surpassing him as an artist.

^ I'm bringing him up because you often criticize Kanye's lyrics, yet you find yourself enjoying some shit rappers like Bizarre who doesn't even deserve to spend time on a professional studio. I mean, Royce said it, Budden said it, everyone knows that Bizarre is the WACKEST motherfucker alive.

At the end of the day, you won't like Kanye because it's not your style. I'm ok with that, I didn't like him either at first. I have no problem at all with you not liking him. But you shouldn't say it's because of his content or his rhyming skills when you like rappers that are worse that him in that domain nah mean? Just say you don't like him because of personal taste or something.

Geno wrote:That's like me banning you from this site because you like Kanye. I can like whatever I want and so can you

Yes, but if you don't like Kanye, just don't post in threads we make about him then. Because when you do, it's rarely because you want to talk or give some real criticism about him, and you often go off topic and instigate debates

He rhymes two and three syllables at time, it's good enough. Image

can't tell if serious. Multies are easy as fuck to write if you aren't actually saying anything, Kanye west uses a balance of them so that they don't take away from what he's actually saying.
