He can't? Have you ever heard Sing For The Moment by Eminem? That sampled a revolutionary song that was utilized outside of its own genre. He is an RnB artist, but the dude can also rap and has appeared with numerous hip-hop artists.. including two of the four biggest names in hip-hop. He can definitely affect everything across the board.
You are correct, but this album isn't hip hop thus this album WON'T revolutionize hip hop. Sure it has a few hip hop songs, but out of those Pink Matter was the only amazing one. I think the song with Earl was the only somewhat low point of the album for me. That might be different for others, that's just my opinion. He is definitely doing something different, and he's doing it good regard less of our different stand points. And this doesn't mean he can't have an influence in hip-hop, but this album definitely won't.
Maybe my wording was chose poorly. I think Frank Ocean's songwriting can be a revolution in music with how strong and vivid his writing is. BJ The Chicago Kid is great, but I still don't think his voice or songwriting skills can match Frank Ocean. channel ORANGE presented Frank Ocean unraveling his love life with men, women, dealing with those feelings, and he even placed himself in the shoes of a spoiled rich kid and created a lament for a drug addict and he then unleashes a diatribe of the war on drugs. Hell, the guy compared the ruler Cleopatra to a modern day prostitute on the album.
Frank Ocean has a better voice than BJ the Chicago Kid for sure, there is no doubt about that (not saying BJ has a bad voice). However, BJ the Chicago Kid approaches a track with a completely unique style, it's a little more innovative than Frank Ocean but harder to get into. That's where Frank Ocean has found the balance between innovation and attractiveness. I think that's amazing, and only a few can do that. That doesn't change the fact that I think BJ the Chicago Kid's music is better, it's just an opinion that many will probably disagree with and I don't look down on them if they do. All of that in mind, channel ORANGE was an amazing product and a step in the right direction for music in the mainstream away from dance hits back into an art form. That's a great thing this album could achieve if it becomes massive.
Is it revolutionary? No. Not yet. Can it be and inspire others to step outside of the box without being afraid of the grumbles and disdain of generic fans, generic music, and lyrics that lack substance and beautiful metaphors and imagery? Helll fucking yes it could. If it doesn't, I don't really care. As a music fan, this album certainly has changed my view on a few things and has brought a new outlook to the intertwinding genres of hip-hop, rap, RnB, and alternative.
I pretty much agree with this. I was just confused and pissed with your original wording because I felt that this would become a project that would spiral out of control and get praise it may or may not deserve for achievements it may or may not achieve. I want this album to do good, but I won't call it revolutionary until it is. Forrest Gump is probably the most original song on this album, mainly because that is some subject matter that hasn't even been attempted and recorded. That, in my opinion, is the only groundbreaking song on this album. However, that's not to take away from the other songs. The others range from amazing to pretty good, the only down side being Super Rich Kids.

I agree, it's a classic album but it's not like it was God's gift to the earth like you all make it out to be. I believe it has been ripped a new ass hole by Section.80, Control System, Habits & Contradictions, Camp, Torches, Making Mirrors, Pineapple Now-Laters, Overly Dedicated, Some Nights, parts of Watch the Throne, and
channel ORANGE. That's my opinion, do I care if you disagree? No. People have different tastes in music and I'm willing to accept that. That list is cross genre by the way.
Edit: By the way, I am surprised at how much of a fan base Frank Ocean has. I didn't know it was this massive, I mean he is going to be huge judging by how many likes his album got in one day on iTunes. He got 1,000 more likes than Chris Brown's, an established artist, new album that has been out for a week in one day. That's amazing shit. Also, to put to rest any doubts of Kanye West being one of the most dick rode artists of this generation: "Frank Ocean really just shocked me with this album. Album of the year with Cruel Summer." That's the top comment on iTunes. I mean the album (Cruel Summer) hasn't even came out yet and it's already being called the best album of this year? That's just a bunch of shit in my opinion.
