What was Eminem's biggest mistake in his career?

For me, I would have to say dropping Encore. I don't know what was going on through his little drug influenced mind, but I'm pretty sure his friends (D12, Dre) could have convinced him to not release the album.

Another one (not so big) was having the whole gangster phase. It just didn't fit him, and once again I don't see why his friends didn't intervene.

Recovery. He didn't have the ability to make a good album during the Encore era. He did during Recovery and chose to bend the sounds of the album to what the mainstream appeals to. Coming off an extremely strong Relapse album, Recovery should have and could have been better. Just plain disappointing.

It's impossible to say what kind of music we would have had if Eminem made his first three albums through sober penmanship. Did he take it too far? Absolutely. But his drug use, I believe, brought him to push the envelope as far as he did and most certainly improved his performances.

Music wise, it would be Encore. That album really broke the proverbial chain for him musically.

Then Encore. Although it kinda feels like...since Em was pissed that the song's intended for the album leaked and he put those shitty ones on (also cuz of the drugs) just to prove a point he can sell millions.
