He will never top Illmatic, just my opinion.

not enough multi's, right?
Fully deserves the 9.5
R&B doesn't use multies... argument invalid
Nas drops an album in the same week, over my dead body that Frank Ocaen's album is better, besides, this ain't got shit on Control System, Breakfast, SmokeOut Conversations to be album of the year, not to mention Living Things by Linkin Park, who is miles better, it's a 7/10 album maximum for me, and I even like Frank Ocean, and I'm not homophobic, I supported his coming out, and wasn't grossed out by Forrest Grump, but I feel this album is being a tad bit overrated

Man1x wrote:It's different subject matter, that's the only groundbreaking part about it. However, it isn't amazingly innovative and it doesn't have a completely new, unique sound.
Subject matter? Only groundbreaking part about it? You clearly have no knowledge about modern story-telling to compare it to Frank's work, you just praised BJ the Chicago Kid to death (Which isn't a surprise because that's what you normally do to TDE affiliates, you know I'm a fan of BJ but to Frank he's like Chief Keef compared to Jigga). Frank's song-writing is extremely spectacular, even in rap verses (Hear "Oldie"), the whole project isn't as simple as any other R&B artist, he has a fantastic voice, the album is extremely well-produced and everything is right on-point. Like Blu said, some of the best music to ever come out.
Even then, it could have been executed better, it's not thought provoking.
How can it could've been "executed better"? By adding wordplays, metaphors and multi-syllabic rhymes in the end of every bar and more complex rhyme schemes? You realize this is an R&B album right? It's (Lyrically, and musically) better than most of the albums and even fucking pitchfork gave it a 9.5 which is the highest rating since MBDTF alongside Bon Iver's album, and everybody agreed with them. But here you go, even though Earl gave a little something for our "lyricism" heads
And yes I realize it's an R&B album, I even fucking said it....multiple times. I don't want any multi-syllabic rhymes on the end of every bar and more complex rhyme schemes, nor did I even mention them. I only commented on Forrest Gump with these quotes. I agree the rest of the project is lyrically thought provoking, but Forrest Gump isn't. It's just a gay love ballad. It's not different than a straight love song, it's just the other way around. Nothing different except it's from a gay perspective. Oh, and Earl ruined that track for me by the way, I've even said that was the low point of the whole album....multiple times. He was good lyrically, but I don't care. He sounded like shit, Earl that is. Oh yeah, I also admittedly praise TDE affiliates because I happen to like their music. I however don't go after you for expressing your opinion on G.O.O.D./Roc Nation affiliates and signees. You who has claimed that 2 Chainz isn't shit, Big Sean a good rapper, and even once said Chief Keef was the best in his rap sub-catagory.Maybe you're overrating it, ever think about that? I'm giving an opinion. I even said, again...multiple times that I liked the fucking album. I said it was better than Nas's album, I even agree it was one of the better albums of this year. I bought the album, I've listened to it multiple times. I see the appeal. Maybe you shouldn't debate my posts if you don't read them all and see my stand point. And by the way, 8.5/10 is a high rating for me. I don't usually give out anything higher than 8/10 simply because it doesn't feel right for me to put anything in the 9-10/10 range, that's just me.Man1x wrote:I think it better than Nas's album, and yeah, album of the week. However, Nas and Frank are in basically two different genres, so it's a hard comparison. Frank only does hip hop on the side of his singing. He should just ditch hip hop because he's much better at singing, and that's not to say he's a bad rapper. He's just a better alternative/R&B/pop artists. Yes, he is somewhat a pop artist on some tracks, don't have a heart attack because that's not necessarily bad unless he's not being unique. Also, this album deserves some of the praise it is receiving but not all of it. It's being grossly overrated due to him coming out of the closet. Anyway, I really like Lost, Pyramids, Bad Religion (disagree with the message however), Pink Matter, and Forrest Gump (I like the vibe and singing, but I can't relate to the subject matter so I might not be playing it as long as some of the other tracks.) Anyway, I'd say it's a 8.5/10, and I'd rate Nas as a 8/10.
You're only trying too hard to flow against the river. It's pretty understandable if you don't like the album but to relate its reviews through silly excuses and call it overrated is as preposterous as it gets. If you can't understand why the album has gotten so much applause and critical acclaim then really don't even try to debate about it.
But then again, just like every new album, it's getting received well and critically acclaimed literally EVERYWHERE, but our little TR-soldiers have to go against the flow and call it overrated. Sit still in your own world, folks.
I'm out.

If you like it, you can obviously see how someone (such as myself, and others) can possess absolute adoration and be in love with this album. It's not for everyone, but I find it to be easily better than Life Is Good, even though that album is solid.
It's not an album you can fully understand after one, two, or three listens. I'm on my ninth listen and am a still picking things up.
And yes, this is some of my favorite music ever.

I agree it's better than Life is Good as well, and I've listened to it about 7-11 times, some songs more than others. My highest played song is Forrest Gump at 11 plays with the other songs being some where around 7-9. I'm just saying that it shouldn't be called revolutionary, which is praise, until it revolutionizes something. It hasn't changed the direction of music yet, so that is an obvious, indisputable overrating. You can call it groundbreaking, unique, or innovative. On some songs I'd agree with those descriptions, other's I won't. It's an amazing album which I've stated but don't act like it's not being overrated to an extent. Read my posts, unless you're lazy, to understand my views. If you have, then I'm sorry, but don't criticize me until you do.

Well, I wasn't really referring to you. We already settled our little discussion and we understood where we were both coming from. It's an amazing album and will possibly be revolutionary and has been revolutionary to me, as a music listener.
