The Weeknd vs. Frank Ocean.

I don't know how many of you actually listen to these artists, but if you don't, then you should definitely read this thread and check out their work (I'll provide links).

First off:
The Weeknd was born Abel Tesfaye. He's from Canada, and yes he's an R&B singer. He currently has three mixtapes out: Thursday, House Of Balloons, and Echoes Of Silence.

The Weeknd is a GREAT singer, he can hit nearly every note Michael Jackson could. The production for his albums are spot-on, with an occasional badly placed beat. The problem with his music however, is that his content is limited. He's a druggie, addicted to pills, weed, alcohol, you name it. It's what his music is based on. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it would be nice if he expanded on his content. Maybe he WANTS to be that way, but that's his choice.

Then you have:
Frank Ocean. He's a member of the group Odd Future, but of course you all knew that. Frank has one mixtape out, nostalgia,ULTRA., and an album that was JUST released, channelORANGE.

Frank is great singer too, he's just not on The Weeknd's level (...yet). However; unlike The Weeknd, Frank's content is much more broader. Ranging from topics about his love interest ("Forrest Gump"), to his own sexuality and how it's troubling him ("Bad Religion"). Then of course, you have "Pink Matter" which discusses answers... to everything about women.

I'm not going to say who I favor, I just decided to open this thread to open some of your minds... we need some music talk other than hip hop going on out hurr.

name wrote:Overall, I prefer The Weeknd, but Channel Orange shits on any project The Weeknd released so far, if his debut album isn't better than Channel Orange then I'll acknowledge Frankie being better, but now, I think we should give him a shot with his debut album.

I can't believe how amazing Frank's debut was... I wasn't a huge fan of nostalgia,ULTRA. but channelORANGE definitely changed my mind about him. You're also right about how Franky is currently shitting on The Weeknd, which is pretty upsetting to me, especially since he has such a great voice.

I'm hoping The Weeknd's debut is amazing as well, maybe on the same page as Frank's.

^^
Was the album really that great?
Only heard two songs and they were kinda boring. Gonna download the song album soon and listen to it
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

People are tripping off CO. It was alright but it certainly did not have the integrity of music that MBTDF had, which is what people were comparing it to

The lyrics, imagery, and metaphors were better on Channel Orange. It depends on what you're into.

Frank easily for me. Content is much broader. Weeknd has so many effects and shit on his songs, which I guess gives it the drug, dark feel, but Frank can get messages and emotions across without it.
