Question about recording songs

Postby UofLCard » Jul 15th, '12, 01:35

When a rapper flubs a line in a song they're recording, can they start back up from they they messed up, or do they have to re-do the whole song?\

Out of curiosity.

You can "punch in" to where ever you want, or start the verse over.

This. ^ And if you're wondering, on Say What You Say, Em says "don't pull no punches, that's weak shit" (or something like that) he's referring to "punching in".

But with the technology nowadays, Em uses it, and so does mostly everyone else. If you're gonna record a song, you might as well use everything to it's fullest potential to make it sound the way you want it.

In other words, Em's a hypocrite?

Always thought it meant not taking 'cheap shots'. I had no idea what he had been referring to. :facepalm

He doesn't punch his bitch or beat his kids in public, either.

He fucked up verse 3 on Stan and he kept it lol

He fucked up here because it doesn't make sense

"And when you dream I hope you can't sleep and you scream about it"

But I wouldn't count that as not fixing it, I don't think he realized it (who knows if he knows to this day?)

He probably meant it like.. when you dream (a bad dream) you'll wake up and won't be able to sleep. Then you'll scream. Basically he's saying he'll have night terrors.

No, his live version with Elton John has the correct lyrics.

On the album he says "I hope you cant sleep and you dream about it". When he performs it live he says "I hope you go to sleep and you dream about it".

it makes sense both ways lol. Also Em probably didnt use punches for a while. There was something about Dre asking Em if he wanted to punch in during the recording of My Name Is, and Em said no out of habit because he used to not be able to afford punching in.
