Nas - Illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic, God's Son, Life Is Good (I Am... And Untitled are also great albums, but not sure if I'd include them)
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

And since the thread's name is best catalogs, I think I'm on point

It's all opinion but i think The Eminem Show is the best album ever but i can't say the SSLP or the MMLP i mean if you feel that way cool.

yeah too each their own, for me it's: SSLP > MMLP (kinda leaning towards MMLP more nowadays) > TES > then comes other classics

TES i think most Em fans like the most is cos it's a relatable album so there is a personal connection to being able to relate to the Music. It's of course a wonderfully written and produced album too but what gives it the edge is the relatability element over the entertainment aspect.

Lello wrote:exactly, but the SSLP and MMLP are rich with funny and ironic social commentary, with some great conceptual songs, and the with rhyming that is out of this world if you ask me, his worplay, his persona was new to hip hop at that time, he spit shit that was unseen before, the aggressiveness on MMLP, and the loony, zany character on the SSLP, I just adore every song on those albums, but I'm not rebuttling what you said, I love TES for the reasons you mentioned as well

Also the thing is he played a huge role in the actual producing beats in all 3 albums mainly TES but he co produced almost every song on The SSLP and produced a bulk of The MMLP so where as say someone like 2pac who only rapped gets credit for his lyrics on his albums with Eminem since he does both and produced his first 3 the credit is also for the production.

Jay Z

Black Album, Reasonable doubt, Blueprint 1 and 2

His collaboration albums were culture defining too- Collision Course, Best of Both Worlds, Watch the Throne.

I dont particularly LIKE him but i have learnt to respect him more and more recently.

So you think Recovery's a classic and The Blueprint and The Black Album aren't.
Fuck top five, bitch, I'm top four
And that includes Biggie and Pac, whore
And I got an Evil Twin
So who the fuck do you think that third and that fourth spot's for?

Yeah i think Recovery is a classic based on being able to play it all the way through from top to bottom with out skipping a song which is rare and a major aspect of an album being classic to me. I thought the production on Blueprint overshadowed the lyrics but the main reason i don't think it's a classic is cos to me it didn't have the replay value and cos i can't play it with out skipping quite a lotta songs. Black Album to me was boring and same as far as not having replay value.
