The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

"Ill Mind of Hopsin 5" is the fifth installment in the socially-conscious rapper "Ill Mind" series, in which the artist expresses frustration with jaded youth and disenchantment toward famous, unrelateable rappers. The track bows at No. 17 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart as well this week, with 20,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In other Social 50 news, publicity leading up to Fox TV's "Teen Choice Awards" (July 22) helps Taylor Swift rise 28-8 during the charting week. Swift experienced a gain of 271,000 followers on Twitter (87% increase) and 226,000 Facebook fans (114% increase). Swift took home five awards, including choice female artist, bringing her career total up to 20 (the most Teen Choice Awards ever won by a female artist).

The Piano Guys reenter the chart at No. 31 after the act released a video cover of One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful." The video, which dropped July 18, helped the Guys earn 5.87 million plays on YouTube during the charting week (227% increase). The track, released commercially, also debuts at No. 1 on the New Age Digital Tracks chart. The activity surrounding the release parlayed into 58,000 new fans (a 445% increase) across Facebook, Twitter and primarily YouTube.

Green Day re-enters the Social 50 this week as well, after the arrival of the lyric video for its "Oh Love." It's the first single from the band's upcoming album "Uno!" and has received over 1 million views since its release. "Uno!" is the first in Green Day's upcoming three album series and is scheduled to be released Sept. 25. Green Day added 156,000 fans to its overall fan base last week -- a 157% increase compared to the previous frame.

As for the rest of the top 10, Rihanna reclaimed her usual spot at No. 1 (3-1) and Katy Perry rose (5-2), knocking Bieber down a notch (2-3). Pitbull continues his rise (7-4) as One Direction slips (4-5). Skrillex tumbles from his No. 1 spot last week (1-6) as Adele slides (6-7) as does Nicki Minaj (8-9). Jennifer Lopez continues to anchor the chart's No. 10 spot.

Good for him. I think we're going to see many rappers begin to do this sort of thing.

Which is very good for hip-hop, as it means much less compromise. People are beginning to realize that, as Yela said, you don't need a major anymore. There is no need for compromise now.

I wish somebody would get that memo to Em.

fucking this!!! and whats worse is that by Eminem being "used" by Jimmy Ivione other major label artists music is subsequently compromised. Kanye, Lupe and Tech n9ne and many others have spoken of how he is the "standard" and how so many people follow his lead whether on lyricism, subject matter or artistic integrity. We could have gotten a classic Radioactive and Welcome to Our House if only Eminem grew some balls.
