Biggest flops in hiphop history?

Postby Common » Aug 15th, '12, 00:02

Who had the most potential to have a great career but just blew it? And I'm not talking about guys like Wayne who fell off.

My list:
Charles Hamilton - One of the most hyped XXL Freshman, had cosigns from Em to Kanye. Drugs and/or mental illness completely derailed him and now he gets MAYBE a few thousand listens when he drops a (terrible quality) mixtape.
Papoose - Was regarded as one of the best spitters alive, but proved himself incapable of making album type tracks. He still hasn't released his debut.
DZK - A former underground legend who had millions of soundclick listens, he just disappeared and never dropped an album.

I also predict Earl Sweatshirt will join this list. Everything he has released since his return sounds like a generic YouTube rapper.

He did show me DZK, I assume that's why? He probably doesn't have many fans anymore.

Do you have FreeSpeech's contact info BTW?

I actually did find him (I think) on Myspace but he hasn't responded. I found TRShady's page, and they have a friend called Free Speech. I assume it's him, or related to him. I know he's black, and it's a black rapper.

If anyone knows another way to contact him, let me know.

papoose disappointed the crap out of me. what happen to "nacirema dream" album there was so much hype? then one day in some interview out of no where pap is like NAH my mixtapes are my albums. then he fell off the face of the earth. now he recently released some WACK freestyles. he was a huge let down (but i still have faith in him as i do with every artist that seems to sky dive towards failure)

Yelawolf really let me down with Radioactive. Also, seems like some of those songs could have been huge though so, it wasn't used properly either. But, glad he's acknowledged it now and seems back on a truly authentic track so, can't wait for Love Story.

B.o.B I also think hasn't really lived up to what he's capable of yet either. Both of his first albums are enjoyable and have some great hooks, music and lyrics, but are they classics? not for me. There's too much compromise, wasted time, and lack of direction, on both.

When you think of 'the greats' - their first two albums are usually incredible, something to define a generation or just, material compiled that is so consistent and fantastic. B.o.B has let me down as... it's just collections of songs, they're hardly like WOW albums

But, he's still young, and still has time.

It does feel like a lot with amazing potential lately though are not delivering.

Menzo wrote:I agree wholeheartedly about B.o.B, it's such a shame. I have faith that he'll put out one of those albums that just makes you sit back and go, "damn...that was amazing" but at the same time...I feel like that boat has sailed.

Yep.

I don't think it has though, he's only 23... and I think it's obvious that he's a 'musician for life' kind, so I think he'll still be making music well in to his 30s, maybe even 40s. And he can sing, and cross genres, so it's not like he's restricted to just rapping.

He obviously hears what people are saying, and must know he hasn't delivered a classic with either now; in fact when Strange Clouds was coming out, there were statements from him saying about how there'll be hardly any features and he's 'making the music he wants to make' now; yet, it was again packed with features and obvious plies for radioplay. Pretty disappointing.

I think he'll have a Yelephiphany soon.

OP is talking about career flops, people with hype and talent but never did anything with it. B.o.B. has released two pretty good albums. He absolutely did not flop lmao
