Relapse = Classic?

Postby Cupid Stunt » Aug 23rd, '12, 19:54

Like, I didn't like it that much in the beginning, but now, I like every song. The beat on "Hello" makes me jizz, his rhymes are good, the way he did "Bagpipes from Baghdad", wow, not everyone can rap like that.

I think his next album is gonna rape TES in the ass though. (Fuck you Bluerag, aka Aftermathers)

I fucking love Relapse but "Beautiful" and "Crack a Bottle" stop it from being classic to me. Having subpar songs is okay, rarely is a classic top-to-bottom classic songs, but they all have to fit, it's the consistency which makes a classic too. And "Beautiful" in particular sticks out like a mother fucker sonically, as it just wasn't made for the same album.

So annoying too as every other song is so fucking amazing / fits so well... there's such a sound and a theme to Relapse that's so unique. Such a wasted era, sigh.

Im really like Relapse. The only problem of this album is some kind of "rubber" sounding. I mean, for example, i prefer to listen to the Travis Barker version of 3 a.m., its better then the original. And i always thought that the second part of Stay Wide Awakes' hook could be sang by Manson, or Ozzie xDD

Really, it's almost a classic. I think putting Beautiful on the album was a good choice simply just because the album needed THAT song if you know what I mean...but there are just a few songs I don't like like Crack A Bottle and Hello...Medicine Ball is kinda growing on me but I feel that's a weak track as well. Every other track is great.

Embase is 100% right with crack a bottle making relapse a bad album. But in my opinion onl certain types of people like to listen to relapse... It's sort of a dark album.

I kinda like it. I just don't like it on relapse.. Shouldn't of been released to be honest. Or it should of, but not officially.

For me a Classic needs to be revolutionary, something that can be identified with for years to come, sets a new standard. I don't have many albums that I consider classics so I am not dissing Relapse when I say I think it is not a classic. The concept was great, the togetherness of the album in terms of actually telling a story was great although I still believe it was somewhat executed poorly. Would never be a classic for me but I still consider this route in terms of production, rhyme schemes, flow to be the best one he has taken out of Relapse/Recover/HTS.

It actually felt like an album, too bad I found some songs to be filler. I know he had to take the Recovery route and I did enjoy Recovery but I will never understand why he decided to go with so many weak producers for it. (Outside of Havoc and Dre).

See the thing with Beautiful is that it does stick out I agree with you, the rhyming is basic too but I always thought it somewhat fitted in the album in terms of continuing the story but obviously not the cohesive sound. Beautiful was a track mostly written while in Rehab somewhat battling addiction, which in terms of continuing the album story it does somewhat fit after De Ja Vu which discusses his overdose.
