I just stated i loved it!! lol Yeah, i kinda feel what u saying about people being overly critical.

Well I'm not being overly critical, I'm just expressing my honest reaction.

If I'm enjoying it, I'm enjoying it; there's nothing to critcize - unless we were having a discussion about the merits or long-standing of the material.

It's like, I've been enjoying Watch the Throne since it came out. Have you seen any 'overly critical' threads I've made about that? I'm not that guy. I don't just go out of my way to pick things apart for the sake of it. If I was enjoying the SH album, I'd have no reason to make this thread.

We can't all just keep saying people are being 'overly critical' or 'hating' every time somebody doesn't enjoy something that's put out. That's madness. If you enjoy it, great, I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't; but let's not accuse people like me of aimlessly indulging in criticism just because you don't like the fact I'm not naturally enjoying it lmao.

Well that was not directed at you in particular!! lol The forum in general has more discussion about whether people like/ dislike Eminem's new flow, the sloppy production, the awful single attempts, the boring nature of Crooked I's multies / Joe Budden's flow / Royce's verses and no to little discussion on actual dope lines from the album. All i was saying was that sometimes people in general need to simply ENJOY the album and become fan. Kinda of reminds me of this quote (off-topic) on Erotica

If You look too closely it becomes pornography
yet if you look too far you become a critic.
look just enough and it becomes beautiful art.

Anyway, i'm glad that you cleared up the concept thing. It bugged me out for a bit.

You know, i think the album stifles all the good lines/ verses by its overly produced inconsistent production and occasional horrendous songs. I mean, no-one here has yet to comment on Joell Ortiz's verse on Walk of Shame because the beat is meh and the hook is fucked up but if you have ever had a girl do that walk of shame then the verse is Verse of The Album contender in terms of enjoyability. It could fit in a Prime Eminem album tbh. But, with the mayhem that is the album (not helped by having a mixtape drop a week before it) its all a bit much to process.

In the end, a bit more time spent on the album by having Dre clean up the noise and remove some excess and record some more focused verses could have elevated the experience.

Oh okay, lol.

Well I know what you're saying but what I'm saying is... me personally; I can't enjoy something and pretend to myself that I don't. What I'm saying is, when you enjoy it - it's knee-jerk, you shouldn't have to go "hmm, let me stop not enjoying this and try to enjoy it".

When I enjoy things it's automatic; so this / these threads are not even thought up.

I can't enjoy it, if it's not enjoyable to me, just inherently. I tried sitting there and just enjoying it; I have no interest in picking things apart for the sake of a forum thread or to argue: I WANT to like it, I want to hear some classic hip-hop and I believe SH have potential.

So on every level I completely relax and just aim to listen to enjoyable music; but with this album (or any music I don't enjoy) - my potential enjoyment was interrupted by me noticing I wasn't enjoying it lmao. That's why I then react like this. If I could just enjoy it, believe me, I would be!

And I genuinely didn't hear many dope lines on the album. That's why I am so disappointed and why I am talking about it like this: I wish I had moments where I was like "wow, that was clever" or 'rewind' moments, but they were virtually non-existent to me. But as you say, and I agree: the album does overpower their vocals a lot, but regardless, I feel it's a lyrical dud.

The verse which sticks out most in my mind is Crooked I's "Our House" verse; I didn't hear anything truly memorable from Budden, which was very surprising as, as I say, he's my favourite member; he came out with better lines (MUCH MUCH MUCH better) on any of his cypher performances.

It feels like they rapped better on tracks leading up to this album than they did this album. I liked everyone's verse on "Session One" for example; I didn't even hear anything as memorable.

I like "Flip a Bird" and "Frat House"; but that's mostly for the hooks / vibes of the tracks, I dunno, for me there was just hardly any memorable lyrics on the album. Which is hugely surprising and bizarre, given that's what they do. I mean, I was looking forward to some crazy punchlines; I at least thought I was going to have this meaty sandwich of lyrical fun to bite in to, but it's just dull :'(

EminemBase, what do you think of Joell Ortiz? Have you heard his Free Agent tape? What did you think of him in the SH releases?

Nah I haven't heard it man, I need to check out all their solo stuff properly.

As for what I think of Joell; I think when he's on-point he's very good. But he's hit and miss for me, and I've noticed that when he raps slower or tries to rap normal, he sounds very weak; his super fast slows and delivery are definitely part of him sounding good to me.

When I've heard him rap in spazms and come out with some gem lines, he's very fun to listen to. But lately I feel he's been kinda dull to be honest. His cypher was easily the worst out of them all.

Well, maybe you should check out the mixtape then for the punchline supplies ;)

That said, try visit this thread. Hopefully it can cure your listening experience like it did mine. Now i cant even listen to the album front to back. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=147859

I will do, I would like some kind of supply, any supply from the album though lmao.

Other than the badass-weird vibe of "Flip a Bird". Gonna listen to that right now actually.

I'm not sure I understand the "They rap about what's wrong with hip hop" line. To me they embody it especially as solo artists. They rap about shit that they lived through and they rap about how they're some of the best rappers alive, it's about competition. As long as what they're rapping about is authentic that's what matters. Also they're both still two of the better rappers out at the moment but personally Royce's last two albums>Em's last two albums.

Well as long as it's good, is all that matters.

I don't care what they rap about, if it's funny / interesting / clever and/or entertaining. Unfortunately barely none of the rapping on the album is to me.

I'm just talking about execution; their attempts at wit on it fall flat etc.

Man, we know it's his opinion lmao.

Must everybody state this every time we ever discuss or debate anything? I know it's subjective, I know he's entitled to say / think what he wants. At no point have I called for his rights as an individual to be taken away, for his opinion to be silenced, or said what I am saying is a fact.

I know it's an opinion.

And I am entitled to this one, and to say what I'm saying in response. Now we've got that out the way, can we all discuss things, maybe, without having to state it (or 'imo') every line.

Chilled out? what you said makes no sense lmao. I'm not saying what I'm saying because Royce said or implied what he said was fact, I'm saying what I am saying because I think it's a ludicrous opinion, which I disagree with. And so that's what I am expressing and opening for discussion. And, this is a discussion forum right? or are we all just going to never discuss anything, because it's subjective.

Boss I wasn't trying to come off as an asshole, I'm just stating that like you, Royce has an opinion and perhaps he thinks he is as right as much as you think you are right. I know you understand this, but the way you opened the topic like you were infuriated that the guy who put a lot of work and time into his project thinks it's the best. I personally agree with you to a certain degree, but I can see where he is coming from. You are right, this is a forum and this is for open discussion, but no need to be hostile.

Personally, there are a lot of songs I feel a bit "meh" on, but at the same time there are certain songs that are up in my favorites of Slaughterhouse's songs. Goodbye, Rescue Me and Frat House I think are solid songs that pair up radio friendly and great lyricism almost perfectly. The album as a whole may not be the "highest level of rapping", but some of their best work is on that album and it is better than most rapper out there.
And everything's spinning
You're beginin' to think women
are swimming in pink linen again in the sink
Then in a couple of minutes that bottle of Guinness is finished

This album is a piece of shit, i have never wanted to vent vocally, but i'm so disappointed with this album. It sounds so generic, Slaughterhouse self proclaiming themselves to be the resurrectors of rap, Eminem so called producing it. It sounds so mediocre, nothing actually stands out, Eminem's verses are absolute crap, it's as if he wasn't trying. This to me, along with Yela's album is a prime example of how not to rejuvenate a once dead record label. They have let every one down due to their hype regarding this album, Eminem has let me down because if what they said was true, he had control over a lot of things. They still persist with using bullshit producers, some from Recovery which is frustrating.

Royce lyrically I felt at his highest was on Bad Meets Evil. He went bar for bar with Eminem and was spitting some fire lyrically on that. I felt like he was pretty weak lyrically on this newest album, but he is always entertaining anyway :D His verses are pretty funny which counts for something.

He killed the hooks though.

Realistically, every rapper thinks their album is the best...if you don't believe you're putting out the best music then you shouldn't be making music.

I love the album though and felt Royce did better than usual...he wasn't the best on the album but he did good to me.

I don't find their emotional songs odd at all. I love "Goodbye" and the ones from "On the House". In fact, I think it's cool how they were also able to incorporate it with their usual style of rapping on songs like "Flip a Bird" and "Get Up".
(Interesting enough, those songs aren't their usual style of music :-k . I really like it though.)

I also really like their normal content and think there was a fair amount of witty lines executed on this album :sweating:

ever since royce reconciled with eminem, he's gotten a lot lazier with his writings.

joell on the other hand, has improved A LOT.
