It's pretty good and worth reading (only clocking over 100 pages) it made me lol at times for how ridiculous it was.

Yeah, but I haven't read any other works by Camus.

Oh and I should note that I've been meaning to read A Clockwork Orange as well, purchased it a while back but the Nasdeet speak can be pretty hard to follow, I'm tempted to just watch the movie.

read the book first. altho it may be hard to understand because they use a lot of slang that doesn't make sense until you learn what it means, its an amazing book, def one of my favorites as well. I'd suggest finding a site that explains the slang terms as you read it, but read it first than watch the movie, cause the movie is close to the book but not exact.

I recently read, V for Vendetta and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. I doubt any comic book will ever surpass Watchmen for me but these got quite close, great comics. I also started reading Sandman by Neil Gaiman. I'd recommend each of these to anyone who still thinks comic books are for kids; literature at its finest if you ask me. I love Sandman so much that I've decided to look into Gaiman's novels now. I'm going to order American Gods pretty soon.

I read part of American Gods for a while than stopped reading, I'm probably gonna go back and reread from the beginning, I liked Nevermore and I have Stardust as well but haven't started reading it yet. Watchmen is definitely one of the greatest pieces of sequential art ever as well as stories ever told and the movie is nothing in comparison to it, I was also looking into getting both The Dark Knight Returns and V for Vendetta as well. If you want other "mature" sequential art comics than read Maus, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Berserk, Vagabond, Akira, Monster, 20th CB, Phoenix and Lone Wolf and Cub you can read all of them online other than Maus and Phoenix. Nausicaa is on par with watchmen in terms of themes touched, scope, and general world building and complexity, Berserk isn't as mature with it's themes but it's definitely not something that children should read and hte world building and characterization is top notch it comes pretty close to watchmen at some points if not surpassing it, but overall I rate it less than Watchmen. I've read up to the 4th book of Akira and so far it's been all world building and characterization it's about to heat up though, I've stopped myself from reading it online until I buy the 5th volume though.

Read Kingdom Come for the closest comic to Watchmen but with actual established DC superheroes instead, same general story except more lighthearted and the art is amazing in it. Rorschach even makes a cameo in it. Oh and From Hell from Alan Moore is considered one of his best comics next to Watchmen and V for Vendetta it's about Jack The Ripper.

I've only actually read a few books in my entire life, I find it very hard to commit too. I end up reading a few lines and then my mind goes off in tangents on what I've read, or I feel profoundly bored. I have an army of hooks that I'm aware of and want to read though.

The Watchmen, all the Tucker Max books, Alphabet of Manliness, all the Harry Potters, The Once and Future King, The Long Hard Road Out of Hell by Marilyn Manson, The Way I Am by Eminem...

Nothing that has been critically acclaimed or anything, except the Harry Potters and maybe the Watchman graphic novel.. Tho honestly I liked the movie better. I kind of miss reading.. there was something magical about disappearing into your imagination. No homo.

Great suggestions man. I've always wanted to look into manga but didn't know where to start. Unfortunately, most of the ones you listed are on-going (or long running) series. I just don't have the time to invest in a comic book series. It's taken me nearly a year just to reach the 7th Volume of the Sandman with 5 more to go. I only kept up with it because the volumes are sort of stand-alone stories, really great stories. So I'll have to narrow your list down to Nausicaa and Akira. From your descriptions, they look like good picks too.

I too stopped reading comics online with the Sandman. It just got to a point that I actually wanted to hold the book (and I was getting terrible headaches from the screen). Don't plan on going back. I just saw a pre-order of a Nausicaa box set for November @ $35. This looks like a good deal; I'll think about it. So with American Gods, From Hell, and possibly this box set on my reading list, Akira will definitely have to wait till next year.

I felt like the movie was just a good companion for the graphic novel. The exact replication of panels in the movie scenes were fascinating to watch, esp. the opening scene with the Comedian being thrown out the building. It's hard to imagine anyone enjoying it without having read book first. There also seemed to be things that were cut from the movie but were still alluded to, which would have been confusing. Lastly, the movie was never thought-provoking or engaging, but I don't blame them, they had so little time. I wish they'd made it a mini-series instead, with an episode covering 1-2 chapters.

Yeah I make it a point to buy comics/manga if I get the chance and just prefer having them in my hands and on my shelf than reading them online, I feel books/comics are best when not in a portable version (nook/kindle) as opposed to music or movies. While I respect you wanting to purchase them instead you're going to miss a lot of good series if you only purchase instead, if you do change your mind than try Monster (you can watch the anime and it's a pretty faithful adaptation and a nice subsitute), Lone Wolf and Cub, and 20th Century Boys being as they're all fairly long but finished and you don't have to worry about waiting for the next chapter. Berserk while I still can't recommend it enough (It's a modern day Conan the Barbarian with art that resembles the Cthulthu Mythos/Hr Giger's Art/ and Gustave Dore's illustrations) has such an infrequent release schedule that once you catch up it can take months for the next chapter to release, that it almost gets to the point that you don't care enough anymore, same for vagabond. Phoenix can't be read online (unless you dl it) and is only 12 books long but some are really rare and expensive and are pretty much collector items, I saw a few volumes at my local comic book store in a bargain bin though. I might get them some time.

Oh and Maus is worth a pickupt if you want a short story that is just one or two volumes depending what edtion you buy, think of a comic book version of animal farm.

The Akira and Nausicaa movies if you plan to watch them should be watched before you read the manga because they don't even cover 1/5 of the source material and end prematurely. They're still pretty to look at I guess. Those 35 dollars will be well spent and is one of the best deals for entertainment, along with the hardcover edition of Watchmen.

Tbh I don't like the Watchmen movie cause of how they made the minutemen superhuman which the comic books stressed several times how "human" and limited they were. It became too much of an action movie; not to mention Ozymandias being the bad guy was made painfully obvious from the start. It does a terrible job with the worldbuilding which is a huge part of what made watchmen great, all the excerpts that fleshed out the characters and the original watchmen. I don't really recommend it to people not familiar with Watchmen cause of how rushed it is but at the same time how long it was. The story's also pretty confusing if you just rely on the movie; I dunno if a better director got it might have worked. Though a mini-series would probably have been the best option.

I'm reading "Catching Fire" (book 2 of the Hunger Games trilogy) at the moment. Really getting into it too. It's enrapturing.
