I think Eminem should have more attitude on his next album

Postby Hopsinshadie » Sep 8th, '12, 11:29

That was the problem with Relapse. He brought back shady, but he didn't bring back any attitute at all. With Recovery, it seemed like he was trying to please the mainstream and doing it for his fans. But we need a cocky Eminem with a chip up his shoulders. He could actually be as good as he was before. His lyrical ability has gotten more poetic and if he had the right flow and anger, then everything would just come together. Now Im not sure what he's going to rap about. That seems to be his handicap. There really isn't anything he could rap about that would shock us. But I think Eminem should just go all out and start putting pop star celebs in their place.

seeing as he's collab'd with arguably the worst of said pop stars,i dont see that happening.i'd like for him to go along the lines of that leaked song G.O.A.T tho,old em didnt know what boundaries meant but new em seems a lil bit too concerned about not offending people.

I look at it like this.
When Em made his debut the shock value on that made me instantly become a fan. The songs on the SSLP were humourous but also had that "shock value" element to them. He's seems to have subtly followed the same formula throughout his whole career (sometimes more pronouced on some albums and less pronounced on others). But to say that his handicap is that he's covered everything is wrong imo. Do you really think that Em has "been with 10 women who have HIV", "choke(d) [a] radio announcer to bouncer" or "hit a fag with onions"?
Lol, what I'm trying to say is that Em has to be one of the most imaginative and creative artists music has ever seen and Im sure that Em is more than capable to create more classics. Thats why Im such a fan of hip-hop. When it comes to other genres, you can only go so far (talk about love, etc) but with rap, there are no boundaries. You can spit whatever the fuck you want- it can be your lifestory to horrorcore and its still creative af, hey-even blend that shit together. I think you have to be really long gone to have the handicap of "covered everything" when you're a hip-hop artist.

Completely agree with you about the attitude thing. Its been present in some of the recent tracks we've gotten but not as full blown as Shady circa 1999/2000. But I dont think he needs to get that back by bashing other celebs (I mean-if he does it for his opening single, thats cool). All he has to do is release a record with good tracks and have the same passion he ussually always puts into his work and bam- Shady's back (well depending on which lane he wants to go on- if he even wants to go back to Slim Shady).

But I'd really love a D12 member collabo on this next one :flutter: (even though I doubt it).

Sorry for rambling and talking a whole load of shit...

As I always say, he just needs to go back to a normal delivery ala The Warning, and then everything else will fall into its place. He can't have as good flow as before but The Warning is dope enough for this age and time of his career.

thats the thing about em, one album he will do one thing, and the next one will be complete opposites. relapse - "ill pee on rihanna, see man i do what i wanna". recovery- eminem ft. rihanna. from his latest features ill think he'll be going back to a more 2003 sounding eminem. about the content, i have no clue. eminem hasnt had one album without an attitude to be honest. recovery's attitude was angry, relapses was murderous...

When I see people say things like this I wonder if they even listened to Recovery properly lmao...

Eminem has more aimlessly angry and psychotic attitude on Recovery than any of his other albums. When you look at it, there's actually only truly a handful of songs about his addiction etc.

"Cold Wind Blows", "On Fire", "Won't Back Down", "W.T.P.", "No Love", "Cinderella Man", "Almost Famous"... I mean, almost the entire album is him barking his head off about sluts, why he's a badass and just being incredibly in-character and indulgent again...

He's got an abundance of attitude on Recovery, I don't know what you're listening to.

Cocky? chip on his shoulders?

"SLUT THIS / SLUT THAT, LEARN THE WORDS TO THE SONG  !"

"I'LL BE NICER TO WOMEN WHEN AQUA MAN DROWNS AND THE HUMAN TORCH STARTS SWIMMING!"

"I STUCK MY DICK IN THIS GAME LIKE A RAPIST!!"

I mean, seriously? lmao.

That might sound nice in theory, but actually hearing a man near 40 dissing boy bands, etc. will sound ridiculous.

Right. Well, I'm just going to quote myself from another forum cause I don't feel like retyping the same thing:

...and think that his flow on F&L, the first 3 mixtapes, and The Cool was better. His intonation patterns were more captivating, interesting and different. In songs like Switch, Mean & Vicious, The Emperor's Soundtrack, Failure, Dead Presidents Freestyle, The Run Down, or the Absolute Freestyle, his delivery was ridiculous. He pretty much changed his voice on every couplet, and he came up with various flow patterns as well. And then you have The Cool, with some really stand out flows like Streets On Fire, or even some of the CRS stuff such as Don't Stop. I mean, I can't really elaborate on this, other than naming certain songs and pointing out the intonation/flow patterns.

...and I forgot to add that even though I don't feel that his flow is as good as before, I appreciate the fact that he's constantly changing it, and what we have is a recognizable sound for a certain era. Like, Enemy Of The State is different than Lasers, which is different than Friend Of The People, and now F&L 2 sounds different as well.

In other words Lupe has a great flow, and he's changed it enough even though not as much as Em has. However, Em's flow on Relapse and Recovery was bad. The accents ruined the former (at least for me and many others) and the shouting fucked up the latter (as well as Hell: The Sequel). If you ask what's the best Em song since his comeback, most people will answer the Warning/Deja Vu/Going Through Changes. These are in fact the songs where Em's delivery has been the best and most tolerable, and I don't think it's a coincidence that most people find them the most enjoyable.

Changing the flows through the times is a great thing to do, and Em did it perfectly with the first 3 albums (not counting Infinite), but he's been doing a bad job ever since. Forcing something when it's obviously not working very well is a bad look, and I'd rather have Em have the same flow but to sound good instead of him changing it and killing any chance of replay value.

With his recent stage presence being so impact full, I would say: Yes. In fact, he should have more aggression and confidence than attitude. Even though "Recovery" was him acting all confident again, but now, the tables are turned . He's the boss of some of hottest MC's out there, he has to show them. Just a little "Mr. Don't Give A Fuck" approach, and we're good.

But with a lot of songs on Recovery, even though he's showing his attitude, it doesn't seem as believable. It feels as if he's trying to force it.
