Was Lil Wayne's music ever any good?

Postby PAINKILLƎR » Sep 13th, '12, 18:25

The first time I ever heard Wayne was when I lived in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was born and raised in L.A. California but do to the financial crisis me and my parents were going through we had to make a tough decision and move to find a place where my family was able to have financial stability and the N.O. was the place. I was introduced to the Southern culture and the hip-hop from the south, I know many of you here aren't too fond of Southern Hip-hop but I grew to respect it, and that was the first time I knew what a mixtape was. I was handed free copies of Wayne's mixtapes and instantly fell in love with the music. But as years past Wayne's music got worst and you all know this.

I'm now even embarrassed to say that I used to be a fan of Wayne, it's even hard for me to listen to his old shit. But I still believe that his old music is listenable below are tracks that are sure worth listening to. If you don't wanna listen it's extremely understandable but I would still like to hear your opinion on whether or not Wayne's music was ever good. I've never discussed this with anyone and I'm curious to know what you think. Anyway here are the tracks:

"Cry Out" aka "Real Rap"

"Georgia Bush"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvGYV0h90BY

"After Disaster"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVGYxWXGMmE

Please discuss I'm curious to here your opinion

Yeah tha carter II was good, and the rest of his albums are ass. I can't even respect anymore though, he seems phony. His first two Dedication mixtapes and Tha Carter II are and maybe some of the drought mixtape I repect, but nothing else

No Ceilings bumps but thats really all it does. Try listening to it again its just a bunch of cheezy punchlines. "I'm all over this ice cream beat like sprankles", "I'm fresher than a degree stick", "I'm higher than captain kirk". Lmao its actually kinda bad when you analyse it.

Wayne has some pretty tight songs, and an awesome voice, just depends on what you are looking for.. Nothing he has ever done is mind blowing, but he can be enjoyable in small doses. Sky is the limit and sorry for the wait are two of my favorite Wayne songs.I like dick.

It sounds great though, because on No Ceilings he sounds excited and playful, he doesn't sound as uninterested as he does on his latest releases, you can disguise bad lines by the way you say them, and on No Ceilings, he sounded more funny than he sounded corny and cringe-worthy. At least I think so.

You're exactly right.

I really only listen to his mixtapes.. The start of the dedication series, drought 3 is still dope, No Ceilings is a lot of fun and probably my favorite Wayne CD. I REALLY like the first Carter, I think Mannie Fresh is a great producer and Wayne really knows how to rap on his beats. C2 is good also, but I do prefer C1.

He used to be my absolute favorite rapper back from 2005-2008, I was literally as big a Wayne fan as a Em fan now....but now? I despise him.

Tha Carter> Tha Carter II & III
"This dude doing this interview wants me to spin a few,
Lyrics while I tie my tennis shoes in the nude
A romantic interlude in a livin’ room,
In an inner tube with a dude with a bit of lube
Fuck that I’m sniffin’ glue, sippin' gin & juice,
And a little bit of paint thinner with my dinner too,
You better pay me for my bars like your rent is due,
Now hurry up and finish dude before I finish you."

Underrated as hell and got fucked over by Birdman. It's a shame, because he's in my top 3 producers, his beats go hard.

The original Carter was the best of all Carter albums (or any Wayne album for that matter). Any other opinion is wrong and invalid. Minus Birdman's verses, that entire album is incredible.

I might be slightly biased because I was 19 when it came out and had some ridiculously fun social experiences listening to that CD.

The Carter I, Carter II, and 500 Degreez are fucking great albums.

He sounded terrible when I first heard him and he sounds terrible now. His music was never any good to me; he's a really bad rapper in almost every sense.
