But they don't, not fans of good pop music lmao.

You just think that because you have a broad, commercialized view of bad pop music as being 'pop music', David Bowie is pop, The Beatles were initially defined and by some still thought of as pop...

NSync is just pop's version of garbage rappers that some fans of other genres think hip-hop fans think of as rap. When people who've only heard shit rap on the radio say they don't like rap, they think I mean THAT when I say rap. There's good and bad music in all genres.

I can't believe people are actually saying Eminem, encore was too bad, relapse and recovery too average.

Of the list Kanye has the most consistently good albums, but Big Boi of outkast has a better catalogue

Nas. He has the most good albums over the longest period of time. If Eminem had kept up the quality of his first three albums then it would obviously be him but Encore was terrible and Relapse & Recovery were subpar so that holds him down.

Yeah but it's not who has the most consistent, it's who has the best. And Em's first three are better than any of the other albums.

Eminem's first 3 albums The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are not only 3 classics in a row but some of the greatest albums ever in music period not just hip hop flawless albums and better than other rappers best albums. Recovery is a great album, Encore and Relapse are his only below average albums Relapse his worst album.

No mixtapes I assume? Otherwise Lupe Fiasco >>>>

But as for legit albums it has to be Nas or Jay Z as they have made consistently good albums for long periods of time. I would give Nas the edge I suppose.

The Marshall Mathers LP is definitely in a league of its own, but The College Dropout and Late Registration are certainly in the same tier as The Slim Shady LP and The Eminem Show.

Then of course we have Em's worst, Encore, and arguably Kanye's worst, 808s & Heartbreak. Then we have Relapse which is another average album by Em's standards, and since Ye didn't release an album in '09, you can't really compare it to anything. Unless you want to compare it to Graduation (which in my opinion is the better album), since it came out only two years before Relapse did. Then of course, you have Recovery and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, with the latter being widely accepted as the better album.

Just my two cents. :coffee:

Which album is accepted more out of these two? I've seen both get a lot of hate, but I don't really check other forums (and no one I know really likes either, beside a select few).

I don't think The College Dropout or Late Registration are close to SSLP or TES. And I'm a big Kanye fan. Both of Kanye's first two are solid albums, with solid songs; and I'm sure a lot of nut-worthy production for people who get off more on the music than the ideas... and there are good ideas on them too, but not on the level of Em's ideas for those albums.

The Slim Shady LP is majorly creative and fresh; Kanye's weren't necessarily creative or shockingly original; it was just his blend of sounds, but his ideas or lyrics weren't like WOW; and The Eminem Show is as close to perfect as I've heard a rap album get, top to bottom. Again I don't think either of Ye's first two touch it, Em's rapping and concepts are on another level.

Encore was a poop bag. There are some good songs on it, but then a lot of the album is ruined by silliness of course, definitely Em's worse, and Kanye hasn't made an album half as bad, I actually like 808s a lot; it was a genuine creative exercise, and it's consistent and interesting, it's not a throwaway half-assed album.

On Relapse, I wouldn't call it average at all, it's only two songs which ruin its potential to be a classic to me. Its sound and style is so fresh and consistent, and the rapping and flows are sublime, I love Relapse - I also love Graduation; I think I'd agree with Graduation being an overall better album; just in terms of a varied, balanced album, and it's probably my favourite Kanye album; but I love Relapse, and I'd give it a 4/5 tbh.

Then, I love Recovery and MBDTF, I think they're both really solid albums, and neither is a classic to me, though MBDTF is a very admirable, creative exploration which put Ye on another level for sure.

But uh, regardless of their later stuff, I think Em's first three blow anything Kanye has done off the map. Particularly MMLP as you say, to me that's the greatest masterpiece I've heard in rap so far; but Em's other two great creations are above Ye and Jay's catalogues for me.

It really is the "nut-worthy production" that I generally love about Kanye's first two albums, the soul samples are beautiful. And like you said, it's really the "music" that people mostly enjoy about Kanye. The way his voice just sort of flows with the production, it's like you're being carried away to another world. But on a technical aspect, the artistic engine that Eminem used on his first two? Definitely blow out the innovation Kanye used for his first two. I didn't include The Eminem Show because I feel like Em wasn't using the same creativity he used on his first two. The Eminem Show seemed too...simple, for an Eminem album at least, but that doesn't mean it's not a great album.

Glad we can both agree on 808s & Heartbreak being an excellent album. And you said it perfectly, it was a "genuine creative exercise". I can only hope Em exercises his creative strength on his next solo.

I rated Relapse an average album based on Eminem's standards. It holds a candle to his first three, but I'm pretty sure we can both agree that no matter how good the album is, Em's first three are still in their own lane. Overall, the album is great, and I'm actually glad Em decided to mess around and experiment a bit instead of following a dull path and releasing a typical album everyone was expecting at the time.

Yep. Kinda wish we weren't so biased to each artist, this discussion would go by much more smoother.
