I think there's a double entendre with the whole sick/catch a thing word choice, but it could be a reach.
12characters wrote:That's what I was getting at, but it wouldn't work/be correct because of you're not sick if you don't catch anything.
Unless, you treat it as a more general type of thing. Like just on the wordplay itself. Sick/Catch.
It's definitely wordplay with the 'sick / catching it'. Don't know how you're missing it 12characters.
"Funny how I'm only sick if you never catch a thing"
>So there is the meaning of Lupe only being 'dope' when his songs are complex / go over people's heads.

Where you're getting confused is saying that someone wouldn't be sick if people could catch it.
But that's why he's saying "Funny," because it's a contradiction.
It would be like "It's funny how when I study hard I do worse in school."
or something. But his has a double meaning.
And his alternate meaning is a 'contradiction' as well.
He's saying he shouldn't be sick / dope only when people can't catch his lyrics.
Same way he shouldn't be sick if people can't catch the sickness.
Thats my view on it. Someone may take it differently.
