Just finished my first listen. I was very very excited by the time Form Follows Function started and the song kinda disappointed me tbh, I just expected something else musically. After that disappointment I went into change of moods and couldn't really enjoy the last few songs. So with that being said, at first I thought the album is amazing and now I'm not so sure. Some of the hooks are terrible, but the overall sound of the album, I don't know it's something that I expected and given that it couldn't be better than his first 2 albums, I enjoy it for what it is. I need to read the lyrics carefully, go around RapGenius and give it a couple of more listens in order to give a well-thought opinion. But in general, it's my 2nd favorite album of the year behind Life Is Good.

And in case someone expected a more energetic response from me, I was going to write "I died, went to heaven, and came back" in caps before FFF hit.

Don't be, I was kinda disappointed when I first heard The Cool and that has obviously changed. Plus, there's always RapGenius and Lupe's hidden genius moments to be located through out the album. And also, when I get my copy, I'll be listening to it in a much better sound system, and the beats will come to life as they should. The first listen is always tough because your expectations are in question, but after that, you can enjoy it for what it is. I just advice to not read any posts/reviews (though it's kinda late for that I guess) because they can jedi mind trick you.

On first listen, it's a great album. Some of the hooks aren't great but I love the overall sound of the album.

a solid 6/10 , nothing less, nothing more for me, but he's already in the bin but the listening wasn't a waste of time

The beats/hooks are better than Lasers but they still suck. The album drags A LOT in the middle which makes the album extremely hard to listen to in full. I'll have to listen to FFF a couple more times but it's not as good as Failure/Dumb It Down. Didn't he say it was the best song he's ever written or some shit?

Pretty much what I expected tbh.

On my first listen, I thought it was solid. Other than the singles, no song seemed very memorable.

Of course, giving a review based on a first listen is stupid as fuck, so I'm gonna listen a couple more times to the whole album.

I did like it though.

I just don't know why it's so hard for guys like Em and Lupe to stick to what producers work the best for them, and what sound fits them, and just to expand on that. I'm referring to Soundtrakk for Lupe, and The Bass Brothers/Dre/Em himself for Em. Strange Fruition is probably the best song on the album, and to no one's surprise it was produced by Soundtrakk.

And also I think All Black Everything is better than any song on F&L 2, and that Friend Of The People was better lyrically and flow-wise. I wish we could get our hands on those acapellas and have someone remix them into Hip-Hop versions.

I have listened to it about 10 times now and I must say some of the tracks grow on you and others I feel like trashing.

Form Follows function has some stuff in it that made my head turn. Really take the time to listen to that one like I did. Maybe I am wrong about some stuff rap genius should clarify.

Audubon Ballroom, Unforgivable Youth, Strange Fruition and Brave Heart are all fucking outstanding. Cold War ITAL are growing on me. With Around My Way and Lamborghini Angels which I both really enjoyed added in I would give this album an 8. Probably just gunna get better for me though.

didnt like either of them. they both have a few songs i would listen to a few more times but thats about it.

Yeah this isn't very good. Most of it isn't even listenable. I'm not completely ruling Lupe out because he gave us 2 of the best rap albums of all time and some classic mixtapes, but I'm starting to doubt we'll ever get a truly great project from him again.

Who knows though. Maybe he'll have some kind of crazy revelation because of the fan/critic backlash and release the greatest album ever.
